I'm guessing that when Les referred to the "Brains Trust", he was referring to the fact that 3 Hollywood celebs ruined the show the week before, by product placement of their restaurant chain that they bought into and eventually made Aspel give up the show/taken off? If so, I can possibly understand why he might have been looking nervous about anyone else saying or doing something wrong. The ITC that later became Ofcom, came down heavily on Aspel &/or LWT at the time.

Jerry Lee is the very best! Most interviews with him the interviewer always tries to take old stories after they have been twisted and turned into things that never happened. And Jerry Lee Lewis is very polite and carries himself with the upmost of class. In turn making the interviewer look like an idiot.

In the earlier editions he's much more engaged. Frankly I think he was bored and disillusioned by this point after the Planet Hollywood episode. Also, I think Aspel wanted to do a genuine interview rather than Les going through his repertoire. His interview with Rik Mayall a few weeks earlier was MUCH better. He also said years later that he was forced to ask salacious and sleazy questions by the producers, as evidenced by his exchange with Jerry Lee. This culminated in Aspel resigning. Not really defending him and just my opinion of course. It still comes off badly whatever the reasons.
