Roger, here is another South African tip. Not sure if your family enjoy a good mug of hearty tasty soup on occasion? Those lovely fish heads after cleaning? Pop a few into a stock pot (remove the gills), about two litres of water, add a diced carrot or two, salt and pepper, a bay leaf or two. Simmer about an hour and a half, strain and use or freeze for later use. An excellent stock for healthy tasty soup.

Roger you are an absolute legend. I absolutely love all your bait fishing videos. I watch them over and over. Not like the usual lure and plastic fishing videos all over KZfaq. Your videos are awsome and show exactly what the average person can do on a river or beach who doesn't have a boat etc. Keep up the great videos mate catching bait, using bait, keeping bait, storing bait, finding bait, finding gutters etc. You are very entertaining buddy.

Great video, Roger! Down the track, it would be good to see you do a video on pot-holing the rocks - a mobile approach to shallow water rock fishing, covering liberal use of berley, tackle, bait, simple running ball sinker rig, how to read the washes etc.

What an amazing video…the beach where you fish is sensational and what amazed me is many times when you are fishing these pristine locations, there are no other anglers to be seen. The salmon action on light tackle was both entertaining and instructional. Live baiting off the beach is totally foreign to me as I usually fish the Victorian coastline (90 mile beach) and when I have fished for larger species it is usually with fresh caught fish of which the fillets are used. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful video Roger.

Love your channel Roger! I was thinking that a video on how to safely handle different species of fish would be useful and get some views. You could potentially use some previous footage since you cant go and catch every type of fish for one video but I'm sure you would give it a red hot go. Thanks for all the fishing tips.

Thats a great hole on a rising tide with dusk coming on. The perfect recipe for Mulloway. Corporal Defriskbomb caught a Jew Fish/ Mulloway that was longer than the bath in the lines at RAAF Williamtown. He had it covered in ice from the mess and it fed about 100 people in a beautiful indian vegetable curry with BBQ'd Mulloway steaks. Many happy people.

Hi Roger always enjoy your videos very informative and please keep it up. Just a tip for you when you are using braid and casting heavy sinkers and big baits have you thought about taping a Breakaway Cannon to your rod with electrical tape it’s a game changer well it was for me they are cheap to buy and easily removed if you don’t require no need for a finger stall anymore you can put that in the bottom drawer. In the late 70’s early 80’s when fishing offshore from Bermagui we would catch small tuna and rig them in a similar way using heavy Dacron with loops on each end and an open eyed needle. Baits were trolled for marlin and sharks, very effective.

Hi Roger, love the videos and learning a lot, never to old to learn new tricks, But I think I have one for you, I grew up on Kangeroo Island and when I was a kid we went black bream fishing in a river called Cygnet River, day before I would collect 2 to 3 dozen small rock crabs for bait Now our style of fishing back then for bream where we'll away from the normal everyday cast and hook as we see as the normal we would use only light 10lb line one swivel to the main line a small running sinker and long shanked hook, we would remove the claws from the live crab bai and and hook it in the rear back leg, we would cast close to a snag or where we thought they would be hoding, now the interesting way we did this type of fishing is once wasted we would pull a metre of line out and leave the bail arm open, once you see the line being taken up we knew the fish had hit and we would again pull out another metre of line and the close the bail arm ready to strike, once the line has taunt we would strike the hit, we were pulling in 2lb + black bream using this method and it works a treat, I would like to see this style of fishing for others to explore and trust me when I say that we never missed a fish doing this , could you please do a video so others can see and experience a totally different style of hookup of bream, look forward to seeing it, take me back to the island and I'll show you where these big buggers where, I'm sure there is some place nearer to you, but would love to see my explanation of this in one of your videos , happy fishing

Another tip is to use a black bucket. The darker bucket does not stress the fish out as much as a white bucket. Put a lid on with holes through for your air pump and a few more for circulation. The darker environment helps keep the fish alive for longer!

Great video Roger. As an expat Saffa, I love the way you adopt techniques from there. Just for Interest, when I first arrived here I was pleased to find Mulloway which are called Kob and Taylor which are called Shad over there. I would value your input on this next. One thing that truly puzzles me is that Aussie fishermen don`t use a belt bucket (Saffa term) or Belt Gimble when rock & surf fishing. They really anchor the rod butt during retrieval when lure spinning and of fighting a caught fish. Do you know of a reason why this is so?
