We are spoiled here in Cleveland with Lake Erie. There really are some nice beaches. Nevertheless, I’m still Team Beach (ocean version).

As a lifelong MN/WI resident, I agree with Ann Marie. Lake Life is everything and, in her defense, our lovely lakes aren't infested with snakes, gators, or brain eating ameoba. The worst thing you might run into is swimmer's itch or cutting your foot on some zebra mussels. We also have "the beach" all long the Great Lakes coast. No salt, no sharks, no jellyfish!

Except for …. When there are brain-eating amoebas in MN Lakes, which are r a r e, so rare, but yes deadly, prob more so than the what was it, the dog sharks?? The little sharks that Kim was defending at the beach in their Midwest vs. South beach battle? Like, yes, they bite…. But it’s REALLY Rare …… lol, no snakes but yes occasionally deadly amoebas ! Love this video and this producer, Ann Marie (Holy Moses that’s a Midwest NAME, ohmygawsh) is finally getting her due !! You go Ann Marie ! But I love the ocean, too. Except the romance went out I didn’t know I had to keep my mouth like piranha face SHUT TIGHT in the Ocean. Ouch ! Bleck !

Some of the Great Lakes are awesome,it’s like being at the beach,at least Lake Michigan. Lake Erie has those awful snakes. Don’t know too much about the others.

As someone who grew up in the middle of nowhere going to lakes but now living just an hour away from Cape Cod, I’m conflicted. But not about how great this song is! Bravo 🙌

Not conflicted. Grew up in IN. Saw the ocean once. Now I vacation on Cape Cod every summer, gets me through the winter. One of the best parts of living out here!

Being a Michigander surrounded by the Great Lakes, I have to vote Lake. Lake Michigan is pure sand out for quite a bit, never saw a snake and a pretty huge beach in most areas. Oceans are beautiful...but for me I will take the Lake.

I live off of Lake Michigan too and I have yet to see a snake on the water! The squeeky sand and swimability can't be beat!

But the Great Lakes are basically freshwater seas. Its kinda a hybrid of the two but with northern climate (way fewer snakes).

Toronto has an area called The Beaches, which are beaches on Lake Ontario. There is also Wasaga Beach on Lake Huron so I support the fact that there are beaches on lakes. In fact they are better than some ocean beaches, no rocks, jelly fish, man-o-wars, sharks, etc.

Grew up on East Coast with beach. For the last 27 years, I've lived in Minnesota with over 10,000 lakes. I like beach in the off-season, lakes all year round. As your song so brilliantly explained, there are pros and cons to both. I'll take them both . . . Because they're both water and that's one of my favorite things.

I'm from Michigan. We have everything listed in both parts of this song except hurricanes (thankfully!). Lots of lakes, lots of nice beaches. And our beaches vary, some are very sandy, you can build sand castles, some people surf, some lakes have riptides, we have beautiful sunrises and sunsets, we even have PELICANS! And not all lakes have snakes, and definitely NONE of them have sharks or alligators!

Best lake memory I have was at my friend's grandparent's lake. 2 dogs went swimming in it and when they came out, they found me. I knew what they were up to, so I started running, but I slipped and fell going up a small hill that was wet from them going in and out. When I was on the ground, one stood on each side of me and they both shook at the same time. I was drenched and I knew they planned this.

New Hampshire lakes are the best! Very clean and clear, no alligators or snakes to be afraid of, no flesh eating parasites 🤮. They are absolutely beautiful!

I just mentioned NH lakes. My grandparents had a cottage on Lake Winnipesaukee and I'd rather be there. I feel like our lake water is warmer than our ocean water.

So I live in Oregon and our beach is great when the water isn't 50 degrees and there isn't high winds. But at my grandparents lakehouse in Upstate New York I totally love it. Swimming, boating, tubing, waterskiing (my dad loves pulling out his tricks), the Main Dock... it doesn't really compare to the coast. One is actually fun and enjoyable, one is more for the experience, and maybe the aquarium.

Fun fact: Lake Michigan does sometimes have dangerous rip currents. I think the lake she was talking about was an inland lake, not one of the Great Lakes, which are also called inland seasm

I actually know people from up there that can't tell me whether the Great Lakes are salted or not! (from the South) They've said, 'yes', 'no', 'maybe a little...' So are they? They are so big, it is conceivable that they might be somewhat in all that area. What is the true answer? Do you know? I mean, you think of a 'lake' as being fresh water.

I live in West Michigan. We have white/golden sand, waves, rip tides, the whole bit. People say Lake Michigan looks like the ocean. It does cause more snow along the lakeshore in the winter, but I love living here.

Growing up in NJ I’ve always loved the beach, but after living in CA for most of my adult life, I learned you could have it all with mountain lakes. Clear, turquoise water, nothing funky on the bottom, and the littles can play on the beach and in the water without waves to knock them over or riptides to worry about. Plus the most gorgeous mountain scenery and utter peace and quiet. My best “beach days” have been at gorgeous Sierra lakes.

Yes, I’ve been all about the Jersey shore for most of my life but there’s a tiny part of me that would like to try a mountain lake some day. :) My mom’s family lives on Lake Erie so I’ve been there countless times and I love the nostalgia factor but it’s not my thing.

Growing up in Michigan. We had small lakes to go on. I also had Lake Michigan that was close. That was a big lake that seemed like an ocean. That was going to the beach for me.

Michigander here. I vote lake. Have been going on one of the lakes every summer for decades and have seen ONE snake. Been to both coasts once each and won’t go in the ocean past my knees. Worst thing about lake is swimmers itch if you sit in shallow water and don’t rinse off good when you are done. Not sharks, jellyfish, riptides, and all those other poison ocean critters. Nothing beats a day on the boat 🙌

This has to be one of my favorite songs so far! LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I can identify with both sides. Grew up in Michigan enjoying the LAKES but have lived more of my life near the oceans and I LOVE the beach so much! There's nothing quite like the sound of waves and the taste of the salty breeze to relax to the max. I believe you hit on the BEST of BOTH sides here! BRAVO! (But loving BOTH, I have to cast my vote for the BEACH)

I'm definitely LAKE! But the riptide, umfortunately, does still apply. At least in the big lakes. I happen to be a Lake Michigan girl, having been raised 45 minutes from either Mich City, IN or New Buffalo, MI. But still, the LAKE's got it!

We live at the Jersey Shore... but are currently heading to Oneida Lake for a week vacation. We love staying at the Finger Lakes or lakes in the Adirondacks because it's so relaxing and fun for both our daughters and us adults. The Shore has been super dangerous this summer with air quality, riptides and storms. Plus our Jersey sand is really coarse. We LOVE the Lake❤

I'm not too far from Lake Michigan. It's definitely beautiful. I've only been to the ocean once, even though i used to live just a few miles away. The Lake does have a beach, its pretty wide. I haven't gone in the middle of summer though, so i don't know how busy it gets. This area also has tons of lakes anyway. They're everywhere.

I grew up in and still live in a town with three lakes. Lake Michigan is 60 miles away. Team lake all the way. There's no salt water to burn and dry out your skin. 😆

LOVE this song!!!! Not just catchy, but also informative. As a kid I spent times at my grandparents' lakefront motel. As a teenager I spent lots of time at NorCal beaches with friends. Somehow managed to step on hidden rocks or shells at both places. 😠 Watching/hearing the ocean waves hit the beach or rocky coastline is probably the most calming experience for me. 🥰

❤Both.* Michigander here so it’s technically Lake for me. That’s my youth, and present, also heaps of beautiful lakes all around us - not just the Greats- so easily accessible. But…I do LOVE a beautiful Ocean Beach, and will soak it up whenever I can travel to one (plane or 12+ hr drive). Love them all too even when it’s cooler and stormy. If you’re a water person you can appreciate both. Cheers! 🌊

The thing is at the beach, we don’t actually get in the water, unless you count walking through it along the beach - growing up in the NW we have both - only one is for swimming, the other is for relaxing.

Here we also have Team Rivah. Similar to Team Lake except depending on where on the "rivah" you are, you can make a foray into the ocean with your boat if you want. If you are closer to the fall line, you can enjoy kayaking in the rapids. But like Team Beach, we also have to contend with hurricanes (but so do the Team Lake people depending on the track of the storm). Personally, however, I would have to vote for Team Beach.

I grew up 1.5 hours NW of Chicago, but have lived in Vegas since '95. Lakes are all I have ever known and will always pick them (and rivers). I have been to oceans - Pacific, Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico. However, I was always terrified to get in the water because growing up (I am in my 40s now) my grandma and I watched Shark Week and I was not about to be dinner for whatever was out there. I hated snakes, but could deal with them.

This is hilarious. We have a lot of lakes in TN and one local to me actually has a great sandy beach to it! I have never seen snakes on the water here, and there are boats that go past farther out causing some nice little waves up on our 'beach'. Less crowded, too! ;) So, I love the ocean, but think I'd rather the lake.

Spending most of my life in visual distance from Lake Erie, I am going to have to say lake. I love when people tell me that there could be sharks in Lake Erie, my reply usually is, "Yeah but that up hill swim at Niagara Falls is a bit of a doozy."

Team Lake for sure! Just got back from the UP where we touched Lake Michigan, Lake Superior, and Lake Huron. A little rocky, but I could listen to the waves all day and the boating is amazing.

I like both beaches and lakes. A pro for a lake is since there are no waves so children generally don't have a fear of going into a lake, like they might with the ocean, and I see a lot of kids make sand castles right by the shore line and the castles stay for quite awhile because the water is still. I'm in the Midwest and we have a beach in my town that looks just like the beach that Penn is at so there are lake beaches out there that have really nice white sand. Lakes sometimes have playgrounds and picnic tables so there are more activities families can do at a lake. If I was equal distance from a beach and a lake right now though, I would probably go to the beach because I love seeing through the water and the waves are fun. Most Midwesterners I know go to the South or tropical places at least once a year so that they can go to a beach.

LOL! Great song! I live in Wisconsin and our family had a cabin in Door County for 18 years. I only saw a snake in the water once. Parents retired to Florida. Went to the beach, and had sand in every crack and crevice. You can't even rinse off in the water because there are sand particles floating around! So lake, yes please. Or better yet, a swimming pool! 😄

Ive lived in the Willamette Valley or Rogue Valleys of Oregon my entire life…..it’s rivers, lakes and THE COAST all year long. Here in the NW we don’t go to the beach lol we go to the coast 😂.

There may be snakes, but they're not venomous. They're not going to kill you, just freak some people out a little bit. Plus we have lake-gulls (like seagulls who fly over the bay are bagels).

Love this!! We are primarily a lake family and have never been to the beach. We are planning our first beach vacation in a few days, and I am totally approaching it like the Midwest mom. I’m confused because I’m going to a lake with a beach today. 😅Great Lakes are amazing! No predators like sharks or jellyfish, (nor alligators!) plus sandy beaches, like the Indiana Dunes are amazing. Or Grand Haven, Michigan. Presque Isle in Erie, Pa. Tons of coastal beauty.

Yep. I grew up in South Bend, Indiana and now live in western Pennsylvania. But I still think of New Buffalo or Silver Beach in St. Joe as the lake!

Lake... I loved to water-ski, and slalom on one ski, and pull my kids on the tube. Sometimes I even rode on the tube. But now I'm in my 60s and I look at thing differently because, hey, I don't want to break a bone or get injured. Funny how different age spans have us in different modes of thinking. Another Michigander here and Lake Michigan for the win!! No snakes or muck...but you do get the rid tides so?? Love this!! All so true...that the big lake is best :)

Yeah, you have to approach the Great Lakes with the same respect as the ocean: rip currents, massive storm waves, etc. But still, love a good lake!

Growing up in southern CAL...... absolutely the BEACH. But being now landlocked in Colorado.....I will take anywhere outside with water 😅....even sprinklers 😂

Native Michigander living in Minnesota, oceans are neat & all, but the lake, that's a whole nother story. Sand bottom lakes are usually not slimy or gross (especially if spring water fed) & if you've ever been on the waters of Northern Michigan, they're basically inland seas.

Come up north and Check out Lake Huron - stunning sunsets, lovely sand, and the size makes you think you're facing an ocean. Michigan also has some amazing sand beaches.

I'm with both Penn and AnnMarie. I love the sound of the waves and the food places near the beach. But i love motor boating on the lake and we'll be lucky enough to find any food place.

I am from the Pacific Northwest. Where I live, we have the Puget Sound and the Hood Canal. We get the benefits of the ocean but with the size of a lake. Ish. Our lakes are small around here, so....gross!! We have a cabin on the Hood Canal and when people call it a "lake house" it kills me! "Dude, lakes are dirty. This is salt water, fed by the ocean!" 😂

Team lake all the way! As a good midwesterner I grew up swimming at “the lake”. The ocean is pretty, but scary! Also, sand-ewww!

I grew up going to Lake Michigan - and a local inland lake that also has a sandy beach. A day on the water has always meant sand to me.

Well im unexpectedly early to this and I haven’t watched one of these in a while 😂 Im team lake over beach I like the sand at beaches but then it gets everywhere and im no big fan on waves or go to far out from shore but lakes are a blast and so calm
