These dudes DGAF about SEO with their name. Seriously, can't even type them up in the description! Oh well, at least the music is great. Plus, apparently there is this thing called "Post-Rock" which I've namelessly enjoyed for decades. ‪@BEAKBRISTOL‬ ‪@invadarecords‬

Post-rock to me is one of those style indicators which semantically implies a broadening of a genre but ends up becoming a pigeonhole by emulation-minded creators. There's a lot of local contemporary artists that I would put into the realm of post-rock that get ignored for having a poppier mindset than bands like Slint, GY!BE, late-career Talk Talk, etc. But whenever I see the post- label used appropriately as 'that which critiques [rock] through expansion or recontextualization of [rock's] tropes' it makes me really happy. AVAA and greetings from out near Albany.

AVAA Thank you for holding strong on Third being the best Portishead album. I saw them live in 2013, and they opened with Silence, and holy smokes you have no idea how good they are live. The more precise performance I have ever seen.

AVAA. Love to hear you mention Tortoise; Millions Now Living and TNT are two of my favorite albums. Would love to hear more of your thoughts on them and their contemporary post-rock pioneers Godspeed You! Black Emperor. And since you like bands where drummers feature as a driving presence, I’m curious if you’re at all familiar with any Math Rock bands. Like most, it’s quite a variegated genre, but the main thread might be intricate, notey guitar work and odd time signatures, often utilizing polyrhythm. A lot of the newer acts of the genre are quite masturbatory-very much an exhibition of who can write the most technical-sounding lick-and so the current sound is quite flattened (Polyphia is a prime offender-music of the essence of the clout-chaser). But the earlier genre works were inventive and emotive in the same way Tortoise was-the types of instrumental albums I DO want to hear more like. American Don by Don Caballero and Hold Your Horse Is by Hella are good starting points if you’re unfamiliar. And American Football’s first eponymous album for a more emo flavor. Love the discourse!

AVAA happy you've found Beak. I think the album is just called (4) due to the >>>>. They're great live. Check out their track Alle Sauvage. They also played a good set on Radio 6 in May on Marc Riley's show (he was in the Fall).

AVAA Prof, I don't have the same taste as you and a lot of this album is a miss for me but the song "Hungry Are We" brought out so many emotions in a REALLY weird and authentic way. I was really hoping that there would be some sort of sick guitar solo in the middle of the song in the same way that there is a random sick guitar solo in the middle of Wishful Thinking's "Hiroshima". I didn't end up doing the French thesis method that you mentioned in the Eminem video because something feels wrong to me about accentuating the negatives on a piece of work in a genre that I'm biased against because of personal taste and because of a lack understanding. I will certainly say that it was an experience though, and worth it by all means because I discovered "Hungry Are We". Also, a final note that I wanted to touch on that I thought was kind of interesting but not for sure if the information from Tidal I'm going off of is accurate but, it is really interesting for the drummer, Geoff Barrow, to be on vocals.
