Excellent design! One of the major advantages of overhanging the beams past the piers is that its harder for water to find its way under them and freeze. Also its much easier to skirt the crawl space when the piers are not in the way.

Hey Matt, you and your pal are doing a great job. Looks really good. Like that floor insulation and barrier. really will help. I don't want to get cold when I stay in it. Hey when cutting those trees, notch the shit out of them. Yeah, you need to cut them high to help get the stumps out latter but they can jump the stump and run you down. Also cut an angle parallel with the ground so you can keep them from digging in when you pull them with the 4 wheeler. May keep a chain or strap from breaking and knocking your brains out. On the bench saw, so one can cut and other can install, have a dedicated out of the way mostly level area for the saw, a few feet back, put in a couple vertical posts, 3 to 4 feet wide. maybe two sets for longer boards, then put cross members on them the same height of your saw deck. You can stack some cut boards on the one off side to make handling faster too. Makes a one man job and you don't have to use the hold down screw on the saw deck so much. Speeds it up. Chop chop and go. Be safe guys

Are you not concerned about frost heave when the ground freezes. If the bottom of your footing - concrete pier - isn't below the frost line the footing (and building) will move up when the ground freezes. I would imagine the frost line in Alaska is several feet below the ground.

Good morning from Germany sir… Just started the video… and I was wandering why you burnt the branches..? I’m asking because I just found out recently myself that one could a lot of nice things with old, dead branches… So I wanted to pass it on… Build a wall anywhere… ( I know the technology is around for ages 😂) A few of the thicker ones go into the ground, sticking UP, space them a little, like half a meter, then drop the others from the top in between… All kinds of small animals can hide in there, it keeps water when the morning mist is running through the hillside… very helpful in summer… Insects of various types can live there… AND you can get rid of your small dead wood, without lighting a fire every time you need to get dispose of something… Just a thought… 👍

what did you do to protect the floor joists from rot/damage by rodents? you left a gap between the top of the joists where you put the insulation but the part below that is unprotected

ahhh... love the details but that foundation... could have been better, stronger, deeper and with a swivel/thread to be adjusted according to permafrost movement...

I'm not expert, that's why I'm asking. I see that the floor is wider than the supporting beams. And the walls are not directly above the beams. Doesn't that weaken the whole structure since all the load from the roof, snow, walls is not directly supported by the beams?

Dumb question here... Does the insulation in the floor get damaged when it rains? Or are you able to get the roof on really fast?
