My elderly aunt and uncle passed away and it was time to clean out their house. They kept absolutely EVERYTHING!! Not in a nasty hoarder type of way, but everything was wrapped up in paper or plastic and put in boxes. The house was completely filled with these boxes which all of us thought was just trash. Turns out we quickly realized that everything was like a pristine time capsule, dating back 70 years and items acquired from all over the world whenever they would move. Items we found were lots of expensive vintage perfumes, vintage watches/jewelry, bunch of old coins, vintage toys/figurines, expensive silverware, paintings, vintage alcohol, basically every old collectible they had it, and most of the time in perfect unopened boxes. Quite incredible! Made the months of hard work totally worth it!

I went picking through an old house and found a mint condition 1945 BSA Handbook. In the same location I also found an official BSA Plumb Hatchet with a miss-stamp on it. No idea what these two are worth but I have had offers from a few museums. Absolutely amazing finds for anyone who grew up in the BSA and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout like I have.

my wife and i had bought a used children's DVD for my son from a tradesmart and when we opened it in the car to check if it was in there or scratched there was $140 bucks laying on top of the DVD!!!! i dunno how someone missed that because when tradesmart bought DVD's they always opened the case up to check the condition of the disc but we were so happy to have that happen as we were in a pretty difficult place in life it was a good feeling to have some of the good karma come back to me as i am always trying to help anyone i see that needs it stranger or not and i never do it expecting something in return nor do i want anything in return

I bought a painting of Tuscany at a thrift store. It was $7.50 but that day the paintings were half off. So I spent around $4 on it. I did some research when I got home and found that the artist had a similar work appraised at $7.000. Lucky day!! I love the painting but thought tonight, maybe I will sell it and buy myself a trip to Tuscany to take some photos myself. Also to note-- my father is a hoarder. We have rooms and rooms in vacant homes full of crap. Some of it has to be valuable. Most recently I found a fold up pair of Carrera Porche glasses worth up to $600. But this can work both ways. A few years ago, my brother and I had a yard sale and I accidentally sold 6 mid-century dining chairs for only $60, just to find out that they were worth $1200 as a set. So you have to know what to look for. I think at the time, I didn't recognize certain elements of that era that now I am keen to thanks to watching Mad Men enough times. Lesson learned....I will always Google what I am selling in the future! Even reverse Google Image search something that you know nothing about.

Plus tons of other very old and valuable relics and coins. It's the greatest hobby ever! I'm a disabled vet with severe ptsd and detecting is my therapy! Everyone should try it at least once!

I was helping a friend in South Dakota tear down walls in a home built in the early 1800s and found full newspapers from the 1850s but the best piece was a j.c. higgins single shot .22 rifle that he let me keep for helping him. Very nice mantle piece.

I bought a 10$ sword at a garage sale in Northern Canada. It ended up being a DJ Millard US Cavalry sword worth about $1500 ( way more rare than the Ames Swords typically found) .. the guy from the sale said his wife brought it home to do Scottish Sword dancing in 1955, and she died in 1960.
