Күн бұрын

In this video I am going over the changes between BeamCase Sandwich version 2.1 and version 2.3. The changes are rather minor but can be beneficial especially for 4090 and 4080 founder edition users.
What I forgot to mention is, that there are more sizes available, now with up to 100mm CPU cooler clearance. In total there are 18 versions with different CPU and GPU clearances, six more the previously.
In this Video I am also assembling the largest version of BeamCase Sandwich with 70mm CPU cooler clearance and 72mm GPU clearance and 360mm long Makerbeam XL profiles.
If you are interested in creating your own BeamCase Sandwich you can find the files to print your own for sale on Printables.
www.printables.com/model/8263...
Also a big thanks to everybody who has already purchased the files. The contributions help a lot to further develop BeamCase.

I absolutely love this! I think my next PC build will be built in one of these. Makes me want to buy a 3D printer too.

The motherboard I used for my build was a gigabyte B550i aurous pro AX and it has a pretty thick backplate that extends out to the edges of the motherboard so I was not able to install it initially. My solution was to modify the STL's for the motherboard tray and back panel io by extending the 4 plastic standoffs by 2.5mm, and also shifting the mobo IO cutout by the same amount to keep it aligned. It was a bit of trial and error to get the right offset I needed, I printed small washers/spacers from 2 to 4mm to test the height I needed to extended the standoff height by. 4mm is too tall and the IO shield will slightly interfere with the makerbeam extrusions. 3mm seemed good enough but was still a bit too tight of a fit for my liking. 2.5 was just about the perfect amount of extra height I needed. Also one other design you could improve on is slightly alerting the support structure of the motherboard to accommodate motherboards with a back m.2 slot. Mine is almost accessible from the back by removing the GPU but theres a few mm of the support structure that gets in the way. EDIT: Just for reference , the CPU cooler Im using is the ID cooling IS-47-XT, and with my mods I still have about 1-2mm of clearance from the side panels. Its a tight fit but I got it working.
@BeamCase
@BeamCase 21 күн бұрын
The support structure for the Motherboard tray has been adjusted in v2.3, but it is difficult to accommodate every motherboard as CPU socket position and M.2 position vary quite a lot between different models.

A cool design idea could be little slots for a leather or some type of custom handle at the top? just two small slits to slide a leather strap through for a more upright approach to a portable case?

The frame is essentially jus a square box and all side are load bearing, so you can just place it onto the front or design a spacer for the back, there are really no limits to the orientation.

I love your design, any plans to slightly upscale this for mATX boards?
@BeamCase
@BeamCase 12 күн бұрын
A sandwich version with mATX support is not optimal in terms of space usage, so I will keep the sandwich case just for ITX. But I am working on a standard layout case with mATX and ATX mainboard support.

Would the Handle mod work with the AIO bracket extenion? and what is the clearence for the AIO size?
@BeamCase
@BeamCase 20 күн бұрын
Theoretically the AIO and handle can work together if you use profiles longer then 300mm. otherwise the tubes of the AIO will most likely collide with the handle bracket. With the standard 300mm long beams AIO size is limited to 240mm radiators, but if you use longer beams and a case version that is wide enough (minimum IFW120), then 280mm radiators can fit as well.

do you have any plans for fractal ridge like case. rack style cases a bit more space efficient imo. but ofc its not possible to print front side in one piece
@BeamCase
@BeamCase 11 күн бұрын
Not currently. There are several other cases I have on my list to work on, maybe after that but currently a fractal ridge layout is not that interesting to me. I think Fractal did a very good job with the Ridge, and I think a 3d printed version would be less space efficient.

Is there a version without a gpu? (Would be nice for RDNA 3 based systems) Would love to have a sff case of the BeamCase thats a bit tinier..
@BeamCase
@BeamCase 21 күн бұрын
currently all versions have some amount of space for a GPU, though it is very little on some of them. A case without GPU support could most likely be entirely 3d printed and would not require any Aluminum profiles due to the smaller size. I think there are some design by other people for APU builds that are quite good.
@nophase4134
@nophase4134 18 күн бұрын
@@BeamCase Essentially that was my idea, basically get 4x smaller beams and use the 3d printed parts from front/back and sides. But remove the GPU, to leave space for a small 2.5 ssd. Havent really seen good builds besides yours! Thats why i am asking ^^ Would love to create a nuc/mini pc out of this.. (like one half of the current sandwich)
@BeamCase
@BeamCase 18 күн бұрын
@@nophase4134 What kind of PSU would you be using in that build? Theoretically the beams can be as short as 180mm, but then the SFX PSU does not fit anymore/it has to be relocated. The case could probably be modified to place the SFX PSU where the GPU would normally be, to create a very short case. (If a flex ATX psu is used, then it could still be fairly thin. There are also quite a few small ITX/Nuc cases available on printables. www.printables.com/search/models?q=itx%20case

Looking forward to more PC cases 3D printed. There are some cool ones for the ASRock Desk Mini. Like what they did here but not a fan of the milk crate design.
@BeamCase
@BeamCase 13 күн бұрын
The Milk crate look is not for everybody, but it is just because I used grid infill for the vent pattern. It could also be hexagon or any other infill pattern, or circular holes. I just used the Grid pattern, because it prints fast and has a good porosity for airflow.
