2 жыл бұрынMan City press conference with Pep Guardiola ahead of their Champions League game against Spanish side Atletico Madrid.
The City manager has often been accused of overthinking his plans following exits from the competition in previous years.
Pre-empting what criticism he could face if City again come up short, Guardiola claimed he will try out a new method for the first leg of his side’s quarter-final at the Etihad Stadium.
He said: “In the Champions League always I overthink. New tactics, tomorrow you will see a new one.
“I overthink a lot, that’s why I have very good results in the Champions League. It would be boring if I always played the same way.”

@DDeglane16 The only reason he did that was because he didn't trust City's attack vs Chelsea's defence, and in fairness, he wasn't wrong on that front. Ofc he should've gone for the orthodox pivot of Rodri (just a normal solid setup) but you can see why he was concerned with that option. Chelsea's defence during that period was incredibly resolute, including against City during their previous encounters in the same month

I remember when in his first year, he was very polite with the media.. But england press always attacked him every time city failed, and forced him to say that how tight the premier league is, that how great the premier league is, and they underestimate the spanish and german leagues, and they kept asking pep that thing every week... at that time i can see how bored pep is to answer that again and again

I think the ciritisism is valid, for the past 5 years when he gets deep into the champions league, it’s an important game and instead of playing his usual team which is pretty similar and very good he puts out a completely different team and play style, so to say he overthinks cup football games seems to be right

He did a very good job against Liverpool and we all see what would have happened to Liverpool. Luck was against Man City. It would have been a clear win for pep. Liverpool just survived. Sterling miss 2 golden chances and Mahrez sold the game finally at the last minute. From my own understanding of the game, Liverpool just survived. Man City was way too better than Liverpool in that game.
