Another quick tip on the light strikes!!!!! After a little closer inspection, it seemed the firing pin wasn't coming out very far. I believe there was some machining debris or a burr on the inside of the firing pin channel. Remove the firing pin and run a 5/32 drill bit down in and just turn it by hand a few times. ( not in a drill! ) After testing on a couple fired cases, it's defiantly putting a larger dent on the rim.

Mine was working great out of the box... zero problems and great accuracy with aguila and auto-match. Out of the first 300 rounds I had 2 duds that jammed while chambering which is kind of what you get with bulk ammo. Not one single light strike, no problems to eject or anything like this at all.

I just built a PSA Lower and BCA 300-Blackout here. I am currently getting it setup for hunting the way I like it. your channel as several others points out the value for the investment in these great firearms thank you for the content you make. I have put together many PSA built lower receivers with BCA uppers, and they have been awesome! BCA is making great stuff and rifles that people are looking for in so many calibers, like he said the items are a great price! And they have great customer service they get it fixed and back in a week or less! I have people refer to Anderson AR-15s as "Poverty Ponys" and turn their noses up at PSA or Bear Creek so they can brag about what expensive things they have. Then later they can't outshoot the competition shooters at the range that are using standard ammo and standard firearms who are just having fun and socializing with other shooters I really enjoy seeing the Barney Fifes who have all the high-speed holster and gear and a stack of gun publications who talk a big game but when the old pros leave them in the dust! Milspec is, more than most people will ever need most people can't outperform their firearm.

So glad your channel came up on my feed. I have had EXACTLY the same problems (with the same upper). Except when I had a round fire when not completely in the chamber, some of the case came out the bottom and the bullet went only four inches into the barrel. Fortunately, I decided to push a cleaning rod down the barrel and pushed the bullet out. So far, after a warranty return (8 rounds) and a second range trip (10 rounds) and it locked open again, I found the ejector to be the cause for the bolt not closing. BCA is very willing to take it back again for warranty service, but since I have read the email they sent you, not sure that is the best solution. BTW, the next magazine is loaded with Stingers.

Thanks, great video. I'm having all of the same problems you're having with regards FTF, FTE and DOOB. Like you said, don't think the problems will ever be totally resolved and primarily the root cause is really bad bolt/ receiver design. All you have to do is take a look at the design of the CMMG bcg( which is very very reliable) and you'll see the difference immediately. It's a real shame because the BCA barrel is very accurate. I guess at this price point that's the best BCA can do.

I think you're right about the trigger hammer weight and blow back cycling problem. Polish job.. sounds good. I've done alot of research on changing my AR-15 into the .22 and there are alot of problems ,. I chose to just buy a hole new rifle by Tippmann Arms 16" elite , it's a REAL(exact) AR -22lr w/16;1 barrel , light hammer weight trigger, BCG, the hole thing is engineered to work right , and I didn't want to f up my 5.56 , I'm sure you'll get this thing working right , there's also a company called REDI MAG that makes an adapter for S&W mags (easier to load) and it's supposed to have a bolt hold open design with a better seal so less blow back debris gets into the bolt slide bore area and trigger mechanism.

Your video and follow up video. Have been helpful. I am on the 3rd 22LR upper from them. The first had exterior damage that was stovepiping every third shot after my friend that I had a round go off that was not in the chamber it went right back to them the second one extractor would not work at all you drop the bolt and pull it back and around would still be sitting in the chamber the only thing that would kick it out it's just from the force of the round going off . Polishing the feed ramp I could see it was cracked halfway through. There wasn't anything I can do with that. So back it went. On all the uppers I have been attaching them to it Bear Creek Arsenal lower I've noticed that all the uppers have a lot of shake between the upper and lower I had to put a accuwedge in the back side and an o-ring on the front to help tighten it up you can still feel a little wobble I was a machinist and I like everything precision. The third one seems like the ejector system is working! It was kicking snap caps out without a problem. I cycled the upper 500 times by hand without much oil just to see if there were any spots that was hitting or scratching on. I cleaned those spots up with some Emery cloth to smooth them out. Then I put flitz polish on it everything on the bolt system and inside upper. Then run it another five hundred times to smooth everything out. I use a.diamond file to round off any of the edges. On the feed ramp. I polished the feed ramp with flitz to a nice mirror finish. Then use a bead hone on the chamber. I use Lucas Gun oil on all the bolt parts reattached my scope and accessories. Ready for the range. I sure hope this time it works.

Your mileage may vary. My experience shows that BCA has some work to do on this product. I sent mine back for the reasons listed below, but because I missed their 30 day window, they would only issue store credit, no refund. And because of these issues, I will not accept a replacement. 1) Approx 40% failure to fire using Remington Thunderbolt ammo. After FTF in BCA upper, all rounds fired successfully in a Ruger 10/22. 2) Approx 5% of ammo fired out of battery using Aguila Interceptor ammo, resulting in the shooter getting a face full of hot gas. This was slow fire from a bench rest during sight-in. No such issues firing the same ammo in a Ruger 10/22.

@@pewsandbrews I've now run several hundred rounds thru the dedicated upper I built using the CMMG bolt and barrel kit. Running Black Dog Machine magazines because they fit more snugly in the mag well and don't wiggle as much as the CMMG mags. Used American Eagle high velocity, Aguila Interceptor hyper-velocity, Aguila Super Extra high velocity, CCI Stinger hyper velocity, CCI Mini Mag high velocity, CCI standard velocity and Gem Tech subsonic rounds. All the groups were decent. The Gem Techs shot the best group, but shot really low, followed by the American Eagle. Not a single hiccup today, but I didn't shoot any of that crap Remington bulk ammo either. Also, this upper build doesn't play well with my DPMS lower, but works fine on my Del-ton and Anderson lowers.

@@garyxoom7714 I realize this is an old post. However I find it amazing you tried running total garbage rimfire ammo thru a semi auto rifle and dogged the upper for your lack of effort. Then proceed to build something different and use quality ammo in it to obviously prove some kind of BS.. Thunderbolt isn’t exactly known for its reliability, and damn sure not in a semi auto. Granted your built upper might be able to shoot it, but reality is the BCA would have probably ran fine with better quality ammo. I don’t own one, but I know my 10/22 was a very finicky eater stock and didn’t like any ammo dumped loose in a box or thunderbolt even packed neat in the plastic holder of 50rnd boxes. After I threw in a KIDD bolt and spring my 10/22 chews up anything I throw at it, yet you can tell it still doesn’t necessarily like thunderbolt.. Anyways. I just find it hilarious you dog on a product when you fed it total garbage, then turned around and bragged something else you fed a prime rib.. lol

Have the same problem with my 7" 22lr receiver from BCA. Just got this a couple of days ago. I'm a left hand shooter and experienced the ignition of a round by an second round just like you did. Unfortunately I got a face full of dust and some pitting on my face (thank God I had safety glasses on). First range session was ugly. Second was better with CCI Mini-Mag ammo. I think it could be the magazines causing the fed problems thus causing the ejection problems. Saw a youtube video of some guy that pushed forward on bottom of mag to get no issues. Anyhow, thanks for the review and good luck.

The bolt face on mine was not milled properly. The area milled out for the case head had about a 1/64 to 1/32" 'lip' on the face where the mill bit hadn't gone all the way to the top and sides of the indent for the case head. This resulted in rounds not being seated properly in the bolt and not extracting because the extractor couldn't snap over the case rim. When I manually cycled the action,, about 70% of the rounds would not extract. The ones that did extract barely made it out of the receiver. On the range, I also had about 25% light strikes, but I had put in a weaker hammer spring. I've switched that out. I took a chance and with a diamond coated fine point Dremel bit I carefully ground away the lip. Then I cold blued the steel tominimize corrosion. Now rounds come flying out like they are supposed to. I still need to test my mods to the bolt face and hammer spring on the range, but I have high hopes this fixed the extraction issue.

@@pewsandbrews Got ya; yeah, I made the comment, before I got to that part of the video. I have lots of their uppers as well, including two of these ar22s. The only problem I've had is the out of battery kabooms... which have all been with Aguila brand ammo. They are very waxy and will regularly keep the bolt from fully seating, causing the rim to blow; they also cause bobbled empties with much reduced, but still too much regularity--which causes the kaboom, like you experienced. I have had three (one in my 16" and two in my 10.5"). The lack of a disconnect to mitigate these occurrences, sucks to say the least. I love the uppers too much not to shoot them. However, we do not shoot Aguila through them; and they are no longer used for inexperienced/first-time shooters and especially not the kids anymore. You might try CCI Mini Mags, Winchester Super X Power Points/Hyper Velocity Hollow Point, and Federal Auto Match. They have worked flawlessly through both of my uppers. Hopefully, yours breaks-in and straightens out; they really are too nice and accurate to give up on! Best Regards and God Bless, Col

Great video, any update on the upper after putting more rounds down range? Did the feed and firing issues get better? I’m looking for an inexpensive 22LR upper and this certainly fits the bill but not if reliability is bad. Thanks!

Have you tried running it with a buffer in the buffer tube? The way its designed looks to me as though the tiny bit of resistance the buffer and spring would apply forward to the bolt would tighten up any shimmering the end othe bolt may be doing during its cycling... if you look at the S&W M&P15-22 their bolt design is similar (minus the charging design) but their lower is all one polymer peice and where the buffer tube would normally be is all one solid piece, But since it has a solid backstop it would stop any possible overtravel.... This is just something I was wondering if maybe it actually does need the buffer in the tube. It's simple, and I would definitely at least try it. Hope this helps. If not, I hope you find the issue.

I’m in the same boat so far. I’ve tried a dozen different loads (from CCI, Eley, Fiocchi, Winchester, and Aguila) and all of them have FTF fairly often. On 100% of those FTF, when I open the bolt the extractor also is not engaged. I’ll try all of the suggestions from your video and their break in process and see how that goes. My upper came with no instructions and it would have been nice if BCA had included their break in procedure in the box. Or better yet, why don’t they perform that procedure before they ship it?

@@pewsandbrews I found a burr at the transition between the main shaft of the firing pin and the actual pin. I took that burr off last night and shot some today, and it was much better with only 6 FTF in 140 rounds. Two of those 6 didn’t fire after I ran them through two more times (total if 3 attempts each), rotated each time so the firing pin could hit a fresh spot, so those seem like duds. The other 4 eventually fired. After shooting this evening, I bought 200 rounds of 1700 fps Aguila ammo. I’m going to clean and lube heavily tonight and hopefully run those through it tomorrow. Maybe the hotter loads will help it wear in better.
