Love these videos! My Northwind 16 has done great both on lakes and rivers and also performs quite well as solo paddled from the front seat. I've taken it 150mi down the Missouri River in MT with 2 adults and 9 days worth of water and gear. Hitting the Green River in UT in June for 9 days this year. Great boat! Thanks for these videos!

Thanks for your review Justin! I'm trying to decide with Northstar to get. Planning to do a bit of fishing from whatever I get. Have you fished much from your Northwind 16? Thanks!

The Seliga kind of recurve shape sure is great for pics. However, when taking pics while in my canoe I like that the canoe inner surfaces are not too light colored. For example in a T-formex canoe the almost white inner surface steal the show in pics. Especially when taking pics in reduced light, sunset, ... I like more my Northstar canoes where the inner surface is darker and more "incognito" in pics.

I have to admit these are some great looking canoes some of em look to be great work boats! Have y’all ever built a square stern canoe? At my age I don’t have a lot of paddling left in me! One of your larger models would be perfect for hunting camping and fishing and with a square stern perfect for us old guys that won’t give it up!!🧌

Sorry no square sterns yet, though you are welcome to make the first one - a sawzall and some kevlar will get you on the right path! You're never too old to paddle. For instance, an 87 year old is setting out soon to go from Source to Sea on the Mississippi: google Grey Beard Adventurer.

Thank Bear, for making all these recent videos. I'm still trying to decide between a Polaris and a Northwind 16, with so very little info out there and an impossibility to test paddle either one I'm finding it very difficult to decide.

Eliezer, sorry we missed your comment. If you're still having trouble deciding, please give us a call, we'd be happy to discuss.

Great video, thanks Bear! I'm trying to decide on a family tripper to put on order for next year. Usually 2 adults and a kid plus gear, but possibly 3 adults from time to time. Will almost exclusively be flatwater/lake/BWCA. I value stability more than anything else. What would you recommend? Sounds like maybe something between the Northwind or B series?

The weights of the people and the lengths of the trips make a big difference. 3 small adults that pack light and are flexible about seating could possibly pull off a NW17 or B 17. However, most people will quickly go to the NW18, for the extra capacity. And if you've got 3 males that like dutch ovens, either the B 19 or NW20. Give us a call, way easier to discuss nuances by voice than by email. 763-631-2231

Is there very much difference in speed/glide at a comfortable cruise between the Northwind 17 and Northwind 18? Given the same conditions and same paddlers; any estimate? I'm not talking about top speed.
@northstarcanoes2404
@northstarcanoes2404 2 жыл бұрын
Insignificant speed difference. Loaded 18 will glide straighter and farther if you stop paddling. Best way to decide is based on capacity needed, ignore the speed/glide, there's not enough difference to make a decision on. Kids, dogs, and kitchen sinks will move you toward the 18.

@@northstarcanoes2404 Okay, Thanks for your reply! We don't pack too heavy. No dog, just two of us but we are use to a long canoe (19ft.) so didn't want to give up much speed if we downsize. We paddle long distances.

Could the be efficiently rowed (with a drop in row wing type oars)?

We have tested any of the rowing rigs, so can't comment with first hand experience. However, people routinely purchase the rigs and put them in canoes, so the answer, anecdotally, is yes.
