I was walking alone along a trial towards the campground and happen to look behind me & saw 2 juvenile grizzlies running toward me. I immediately backed off the trail and they ran on past me. @@evanlecours5612 Agreed, apparently there’s a tactic for each type of bear you encounter: play dead for a grizzly, and pray to God if it’s either a black bear or polar bear UPDATE: If it’s a black bear, realistically you can get away from it by asserting dominance (E.g., yelling at it, slowly backing away, throwing rocks at it) - it should leave you alone and flee. Just try not to be too aggressive or too quiet around it, otherwise it’s animals instincts are going to detect you as their next meal (especially if food has been scarce that time of the year).

Griffin wants to lay down and wait for it to get close and sneak up behind it.. That's something I would totally do at his age. My mom was telling me there was this doctor who had a lion back in the 70's when I was a knee high and other people would never go near it.. Here I am of course in the cage with the thing trying to feed it she says her heart stopped until the big thing took the food and started licking me. She said it got out once, someone complained and the towns people all hunted it down and killed it even though it didn't hurt anyone.. It just got out. But as my mom says, this lion was huge.

@malakbryant1007
@malakbryant1007 4 күн бұрын
What lies in wait 100 yards ahead? To position the kids, which one of two is carried on the back of the father, 100 yards forward is to have them scout, or lead by point position. Neither capable of doing so, nor capable of defending themselves if required. Can anyone bridge that gap faster than a predator? Then you'd send them to doom in hopes of protecting them, but that bear can bridge the gap between itself, the parents, and children, faster than the parents would be able to run 100 yards at all. At some point in "A Song of Ice and Fire" an assassin means to kill a princess being protected by a knight who has never failed her. The assassin distracts the knight through speech, provoking the knight, drawing the knight closer to himself, and creating enough trajectory to fire a bolt, killing the princess, having never had to fight the knight to kill the princess, only remove the knight from protecting her. As long as the knight was with the princess, she was protected, and even being feet from her, he had allowed opportunity elsewhere, even if from the exact same source. These parents are lucky nature didn't decide to do as nature does. Plus, who straps a helpless child on their back? They are incapable of accessing singlehandedly, or having packed and stowed themselves, without then slinging the pack around to carry on their back, and without any visual on the child thereafter. Not to mention an infant, probably less than 6 months old, or the mom, who is more interested in recording herself, as she tears up, and 3 family members. Providing absolutely nothing of contribution, but maintaining the phone so as to not mess up the video. They survived for no reason more than the bear didn't do as a bear does and not at all from a single thing they did. In fact, they exposed themselves and their helpless children to go for a walk. They could go for a walk anywhere, any time, but chose to walk a forest populated with bears, with an infant child, and little boy about 7 years old, who would not be capable of saving himself had the bear attacked his parents. This is a dumb activity, plus the parents invested into this by equipping themselves to do so. Strap your infant to your chest. At least you have visuals, can access the child singlehandedly, and if falling forward, can catch yourself from landing on the child, rather than falling back and potentially killing your baby boy.

@cynicalpenguin
@cynicalpenguin 4 күн бұрын
@@monicasmm Maybe not for a black bear but I would pick a strange man stalking me over a grizzly every single day of the week. Your argument is kind of fallacious anyway because if you saw a man or a bear in the woods, the chances of the man seeing you as prey are much lower than a bear. Much smarter to take your chances with a random dude.

@@cynicalpenguin a grizzly bear will either kill you or it won’t. A man can do much worse. Unfortunately most women have experienced that, and bears are a lot more predictable about what they intend to do. Odds are they’ll probably leave you alone.
@cynicalpenguin
@cynicalpenguin 4 күн бұрын
@@monicasmm I understand what you're saying but this man vs bear argument to me is paranoid Internet hysteria. Yes, some men are capable of terrible things but the vast majority of those you encounter in the woods are not going to harm you. Bears are apex predators without the same capacity for reason as humans - every single one of them is hardwired to have the potential to kill you without a second thought, that's hundreds of kilograms of muscle, speed, teeth and knives for hands. They are NOT predictable - yes you can assume they see you as prey, but that doesn't mean you will see them coming or be able to predict or outmanoeuvre them moment to moment. A bear can go from standing still to running at you faster than a man could, they will outrun you, outclimb you, and they will potentially disembowel you and eat you alive. I promise you "most" women have not endured worse than that. On the other hand, a man is not hard wired to harm you and in the vast majority of cases will mean you no harm or will even protect you from a bear or another man. If he is bad, then he is still potentially slower than you, and there is a chance you can hide from him, fight him, disarm him, or tire him out. Yes, I understand the fear and the intimidation felt and the danger around strange men and I'm not downplaying it, but let's not forget we're comparing it to a BEAR. Be sensible.

Lol. Black bears live all over. This isnt some back woods area 500mls into the mountains. They are on a trail. I've had black bears in camp --IN LARGE crowded campgrounds. Ive had them outside of the house ---IN the city. 🙄 They took their kids on a hike. Very very reasonable thing to do. All these comments about "dumb" and "guns" just shows how many ppl don't have a clue what normal in areas like the Rockies or upper mid West involves. Heck, by your comment you should never take your kids to places like Yellow stone or Lake Tahoe.
