I started by feeding a dozen squirrels a few years ago, but this summer was the first time a Mama squirrel brought her babies to meet me, to show them I was a safe source of food and my yard has good cover. I legit felt like a Disney princess. To earn the trust of a wild animal is indescribable.

I had a raccoon pull this same story with me. Found her near death, brought her back, fed her every night and let her do her thing. She stayed outdoors but would crash on my couch sometimes. After a year she disappeared for a little while and I got worried, then she returned with 5 little babies and brought them to me proud as could be. I've never really felt more honored in my life than that moment, and I've had some solid achievements. That moment when she brought those tiny little babies to me swelling with pride though, letting me treat them like they were my babies too, I've never been so honored before that moment. I got to sit on my couch and tell her grandkids stories about her while giving them the same snacks. It honestly made me a better person.

It’s not just about being hungry, the bear likely associates these people with safety and is likely afraid of leaving the area they’re in. Bears can’t be domesticated, however they can form social bonds outside of their normal behavior. Such as one documented case of a Lion, Tiger and a Bear all having a strong bond. When one of them died the other two actually became depressed and stopped eating.

Knowing how defensive mama bears are with their cubs, she definitely loves and trusts those humans. If she didn't, they wouldn't have been able to scratch the cub before mama shreds them up. So amazing, good people.

If a bear is bringing you cubs to feed, then you've made some kind of extremely deep connection with that mama.
