I think these were written in the peak of his sufferings from lymes disease after years of misdiagnosis and pain and just before they finally diagnosed lymes. His strength and ability to turn his adversity around is amazing. Such an amazing artist and hard to fathom why it’s taken this long for him to finally start to get the recognition he deserves

Yay Hold On is one of my favorites! I get the sense that that album (Demos pt 1 and 2) were written during some of the worst times of his health battle. They're all very journalistic and you can tell he was using it as his outlet to get him through those times. A couple more I love from those albums are Everybody Drops and Ready for You. Hard to choose though, they're all so good.

Rens Dominoes is one of the songs that made me cry the first time I listened to it, because I have two daughters and this is a topic I have thought about a lot in my life. And have you seen Ren singing Chalk Outlines on the streets live alone? I love this video. On Brighton Beach Busking channel and the name of the video is: #14 Ren plays Chalk Outlines (his collab with Chichilla). The Big Push band busking. Ans I also recommend The Big Push - Live from home (LiveNation broadcast), it's a longer video, but such great music. Love your reactions! Have a great day!

I absolutely LOVE both of these. But, I haven't found one yet that I didn't just adore. Good on you for matching them together. Even if it was by accident. If you get a chance, watch the video. They go out into the streets and draw hearts in chalk on the street. It's wonderful. Truly wonderful.

Have you checked out Ren in "Trick the Fox Band" You can see how skilled he was when he was young. Street Lights is really good. Thanks for your reactions to Ren, I always enjoy them.

I second that track. From Ren's channel, 'Ren - Street Lights - Live at The Regal Room' from 2011 shows the development of his art to what it is today. Who knows how it will develop in the future, but one thing is certain, it will develop even further!!

I read that Ren went to university in Bath before he got sick and Trick the Fox was his band then. Check out the fantastic song "The Mash Up" posted in 2012 on Trick the Fox's channel. Ren has obviously always been brilliant.

Both songs were beautiful but It’s alright is my absolute favorite right now. His lyrics 🤯 Diazepam which I think is the generic version of Valium is one I heard recently and Dear God. I thought they were both very good songs. It’s Alright just really blew me away ❤ Thanks for reacting to them. I think there are probably a lot of gems out there 😊

I watched a video where Ren was talking about a time in his darkest despair of psychosis. He said he was laying on the couch in his mother's home and when he closed his eyes he felt the couch give way beneath him, swallow him up, felt death coming for him. He fought it and came up from it. His mother was driving him to get him help, he jumped from the car, stripped naked and laid in the street. He said somehow that moment saved him. I believe in his video, Crutch, the bathtub scene is him saving himself. I'm not sure but can't wait to hear your reaction to this incredibly sad and profound video. Thank you for digging in!

Hold on is really good. And its alright is terrific. Top hit quality if he had a wider distribution. Kind of bummed more people arent going to be exposed to his back catalog. Thanks for reacting to them.

Freckled Angels is a great album and song (that links to Chalk Outlines and How to be me) and we need to get Ren to do a re-press when he's able as the original run is sold out and it would fly out the doors. I'm enjoying your content and reactions, Thank you. I, like many others, have been doing dives into the artist that is Ren, I'm truly enjoying the journey. Spotify had a song called Patience, that I hadn't heard before, of course it is lovely ... so, went to search for it on KZfaq and found his acoustic version kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aJ5kqMqfuMXWpYU.html from what I can uncover it was written in 2014(?). In 2017 it was used in documentary called, Unrest (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jrB-gchnxru1kZ8.html If you get a chance, I'd recommend checking both versions out.

Two great songs to react to together. Ren is probably my favorite artist. I usually listen to metal, metal core, deathcore... the heavy stuff. His bluesy style, and just meaningful messages hit me hard. When I'm depressed I put Ren on. I feel all his pain and it helps me knowing I'm not alone.
