Beard Papas has landed in Utah!

New in Utah - Classic in other states! Are you going to try this move-in dessert shop that’s in the Sugarhouse area? 🎆🧨💥
Ok…. Now that all those that just came and left to see the announcement that Utah has a new dessert-only shop are off to other posts…. I can tell you my real thoughts.
I give it a 7.8/10
Why?
👉 Ingredients are obviously high quality and the cream does have that good traditional vanilla flavor. I’ll be back to try the other fillings as they make it onto the menu.
🫱 What gave me pause to be a frequent puffer and spend $4-5 a pop is the following:
🤜 The pate a choux shell was a bit crispy for me - especially eating it freshly filled. I left a couple puffs for next day and actually preferred them more then. The dough and cream had melded a bit giving the traditional textures found in cream puffs and eclairs. However, there still was more stale toast texture that I was expecting.
👉 The chocolate was not perfectly balanced for these. When I had them fresh, the chocolate shell was too thick to easily bite through and sent the cream shooting out the side. It was a bit better the next day but the ratio of chocolate to puff was more evident. I love a darker chocolate but it was a bit much for even me.
🤌 Overall, I see the appeal for these. The puffs are a decently sized composed dessert. Expect to see these little yellow boxes to be popping up at your friend and family gatherings. The churro and matcha were my favorites surprisingly but I think it mainly had to do with the balance of all the elements. There will be staying power for this franchise because it’s a name brand that people are familiar with while visiting other locations in bigger cities. It just depends on how many locations could be supported in the Utah areas.
