I would recommend trying to bread dubia roaches, theyre very low maintenance and have no smell or sound, they’re great nutritionally and their shell is easier to digest and break down. Most beardies like variety :)

For heat at night I would recommend getting a ceramic heat emitter, which gives off heat without giving off a red light that can prevent the beardie from sleeping properly. They also last a few years so it doesn’t need to be frequently replaced.

Hi!! Love your videos and love that you set up before purchasing!!! Just want to offer a few things. Particularly on this comment I would say that you dont need any heat at night unless your temps in your home go below 65° They dont need any heat or lights at night otherwise. They need a cool down period. Also your UVB really only has to be 3/4 the length of your tank and it should go right with your basking light so they can get UVA & UVB at the same time while basking. It's ok to have 1/4 of your tank without any lights or heat as ling as the cool side is 80/90 and hit side 90/100 with a basking temp of 105-110° for babies. Temps go down a little bit as they become adults. For the mealworms, the biggest issue is they have too much chiton in their exo-skeleton and its more difficult for bearded dragons to digest and they can become impacted. Dubia roaches and bfsl are great staples. The bsfl comes in different names aka phoenix worms, nutri_grubs, or calci-grubs are all the same as bsfl (black soldier fly larva) they are loaded with calcium and dont need to be dusted. There are alot of other really good options, but meal worms are horrible, and crickets are pretty sub par. Not to mention they die so easy and are hard to catch. You cant put crickets in a bowl and hope they dont jump out before your dragon eats them all. Lol! I also feed mine superworms now that they are older. They look just like meal worms but bigger and they have less chitin for some reason. Good luck with your new dragon!! They are amazing pets!!! ❤❤

@richardd8352
@richardd8352 3 жыл бұрын
Yea in a lot of household situations you shouldn't need heat at night, in the wild night time temps dip really low. A lot lower than the average house. A Cooling period at night is very important for a bearded dragon. Install night heating if you look live in a cold climate and your house gets cold at night. If you must install night heating, it's important to set the thermostat really low around 68f. But they need a night time cooling period. Night time heatings purpose is not to 'heat' as such, but to prevent 'over' cooling. During the day the term 'cool' end does not apply to what is deemed cool at night. Just set night heating around 65/68f.

It came out so good! 🥰 And I cannot even tell you how happy I was when you said you purchased the correct UV light. The mini fridge idea was wonderful! I would advise against mealworms though, as they contain a lot of chitin (the hard exoskeleton). Chitin can be really hard for babies beardies to digest properly.

Please be careful feeding your beardie mealworms as they aren't very nutritional for them but they can also cause blockages. They are okay in small amounts occasionally but not for a balanced diet. You are better with morio worms but again not in excess. Also, the 'can o' crickets' absolutely stinks when you open it. I can withstand a lot but its one of the worst smelling things I've experienced haha. Regarding your UVB lights, for now, I would just use the long tube, the spiral isn't too useful in the long vivarium so may just keep it as a spare in case the build ever blows in the long one. In future, I would advise getting a UVB tube that is the whole length of the vivarium so he is always getting uvb despite likely basking most of the day.

@@user-oh6xq8lx3z thats not the case i'm afraid. Mealworms are high in fat and while this can help baby bearded dragons to pack on weight quickly, it could make them addicted to mealworms too. You're better off with a more nutritional insect.

Hey I loved the vid! For a water bowl, I know you said that you would rather not put one in but I would suggest using one. I had bought the exact same enclosure last year for the same deal lol, and I used the flatter, big bowl for a water dish until my beardie was old enough to use the larger one. The flat dish worked wonders and I found that she often laid in it for baths or bowel movements lol. Although it’s more cleaning work, I would definitely suggest having one!

I have a beardie, I will say you will eventually want to switch out the enclosure. This is the standard size. For them, but you’ll want to size up once they are fully grown. My baby is still a on the tiny side. So she’s fine. But I had watched a friends before and his enclosure was huge. They’re definitely happy when there’s more space.

I helped a friend take care of her beardie for a while we had a small bowl maybe 1/3 of the size of the tall one you had because the beardie didn't really mess with the bowl. We would give him the worm one at a time with chopsticks to make sure they don't escape and hide in the enclosure. We also had a blanket in the enclosure so at night he would lay on it and he would cover himself up! We also had a ladder sorta thing that went across the two sides so he could lay between the two sides. Also get some blue hornworms! We would give him 2-3 every few days and he would go crazy for them. We would put him in the bathroom on the tile to walk around for about an hour a day if we had the time. Good luck!

so cool!! I cant wait for you to be a new beardie mom! if you are interested in a uvb suggestion i'm not sure how to help with the need for plug, but you could maybe overlap the uvb bulb and the double. like have the strip uvb more centered above the tank so the rays go evenly (for the most part, probs not the strongest rays at the ends) & he gets the uvb no matter where he is, esp if he's basking. maybe that could work temporarily?? i wish you luck!! looking forward to meeting him on your channel! also just sharing from experience, those sand carpets are great until they get super soiled. just becomes a hassle to clean and for me when i cleaned it the first time some of the rocks fall off in the sink so i would suggest to wash it outside, but there will be a day when you will just have to toss it in effort to keep sanitation. not the most sustainable thing in the world but the grip on those sand mats is better than most store bought tiles (before roughing the surface up), and especially with a growing guy where ligaments, joints, and bones arent set yet having a good non slick surface does wonders for the growing bodies. It ensures he matures into a properly functioning structure. the little man is a living WIP until hes adult sized. Hope this 411 helps, not trying to sound rude just share some of what i am aware of and have seen irl. good luck and again congrats on the new fam member!!

I'm getting a bearded dragon in 2 weeks cause I'm getting a baby from a breeder and they just hatched and stuff but I would probably put mealworms in the soil (I'm getting a biodude bioactive bearded dragon kit plus more stuff) so the dragon can get enrichment from burrowing and looking for the meal worms as a little sometimes snack. But I wouldn't use mealworms as actual everyday food

I like that setup. To me it looks exactly what a baby or juvenile bearded dragon needs. I recomend to get one of them infrared temp guns to read the basking spot temperature and the other areas. It should be between 110 degrees to 120 degrees. You can probably raise a dragon up t0 10" before upgrade time. You have the right mindset for the beardie's house. In reality it's actually an easy animal to grow. Just need a heat and UVB light bulb and live insects. If you have Ebay I find good deals on there. Like dubia roaches even cheaper than crickets at the pet store and they are very hardy. Crickets die out too much. The UVB light does its job for 5 months and the heat light usually lasts 3 to 6 weeks. Do the math, it's actually less financially to grow a dragon than raising cats and dogs. Really, you don't need to feed a bearded dragon a huge amount either or they will get obese. I slightly underfeed my beardies, though just enough to make them happy and healthy. Good luck on the new pet.❤🦎

I have been in the waiting of a beardie for a while now. I have snakes and leopard gekkos and cockatiels and had those species from 7 years old. I'm almost 30 now and never still owned a beardie 😅 now would finally be the time.

Here's a tip for starter beardy owners, you do WANT to put water in the cage because it does get very warm in the cage but the cannot stand all day in the heat they will get dehydrated the water is just to help the lizzard cool off when it gets dehidrated

But I would suggest getting a tank with front open doors whenever you move to a bigger one, I’ve had beardies my whole life and they seem to do better when you reach in from the front rather than above where they can’t see you as well lol

Zoo med make and environmental control center that works way better than the zilla switch. It comes with the probes for both the hot and cold side. As well as the humidity and adjusts everything automatically based off your settings. If you want the perfect set up with no fuss.
