This large cast iron pillar drill vise was found on gumtree for £10, an absolute bargain! It has no makers mark so it may have been made bespoke by a machine shop.
I believe it had been stored outside because there was active rust and it was seized pretty right, but as with most quality items it only takes some elbow grease to get back to working order.
In this video I strip it back to its original parts, wire brush all the rust and grime, paint, lubricate and reassemble.
I used dark green hammerite paint smooth, it gives a fantastic coat and looks great against the iron jaws, I think this is my new favourite colour scheme.
