When John concentrates on just making his music public, he is a phenomenal guitarist and musician --- but when he allows his private, personal matters and relationships to become public fodder --- his standing becomes tainted and tawdry! But recently now, he has squelched that . . . but now his music has suffered! Since Room for Squares, his sales have seen a continually decline. But I wish him nothing but luck and success. Cuz undoubtedly he's got skills!!!

The range of totally beautiful and grooving music he makes from his guitar during this performance... so rich; His rhythmic chops during the song are so locked in groove producing, and then he kicks in a pedal or two for some solos and it's so soulful. What a musical experience to have...

I saw him on his 2010 world tour. Red Rocks was like the last stop. We saw him right before this at the Gorge at George when he was killing it, but his voice was pretty much shot by this show. Its not that he's "a bad singer". You all seem to forget that he did a full on World Tour only to find out shortly afterwards he had Vocal Granuloma. It was literally eating through his vocal chords.

If I might offer my opinion, it was almost certainly the former. By this stage in his career, (and well prior, in my opinion), his chord progressions were quite deliberate and informed by prior art. While I'm not intending to suggest the progression was "ripped" from Beast of Burden, I would say that he can 'hear' the familiarity in most of the things he was putting out during this time. Check out "BIllie Jean is Not My One Back Down" (John Mayer, KZfaq).
