I've played aom, aoe2, and aoe4. Aoe4 is by far my favorite, I've really been enjoying this game Edit: I like it because it's pretty, feels well balanced, the civs are each unique and very interesting (it's like I'm playing a different game from civ to civ), and the community is quite fun/nice as well

I think the game has quite a focus on being good to play. It's still a classical RTS. So there is a lot to do -- too much perhaps. But there are so many sound ques that help you with situational awareness and they blend into the atmosphere perfectly. Individual unit controls and visual are both alright; works; nothing special; also clearly tested over carefully. Normal is probably the best here. You can see how distinguishable units of different players are as a spectator. Some units inevitably bare similarities but from ground up, you can see how they are meant to be recognizable as a spectator. That would be even more important for the player who needs to make split second decisions. Meanwhile, as a player you stare at the graphics for extended duration; so you need the units and the landscape to look good. And they do. AOE4 also removed some of the flashier micro for spectators like dodging arrow shots. I think removing micro like that (and there are more instances where AOE4 dev removed micro for micro sake) significantly extends the pool of potential players who can play AOE4 competently. These days, we all get old, become slow, yet still want to play competitive video games. AOE4 is good for that. If you know you like the aesthetics and the general idea of RTS -- minus the traditional micro demand, I'd really take advantage of the half price promotion and get it now.

go for it! find yourself a friend to play with, fast castle, use a single priest carrying a relic to steal all your enemies work force from the food farms.. laugh your ass off while you get demolished by the player stolen, best experience ever.

@@tristan4386 Well sure, but even as a Chinese player, it's possible to be *too* passive and let your opponent pull themselves back into the game.

If the devs werent so incessantly greedy, it could have been the greatest mmo out there. The vlass system was amazing. The ship battles were amazing. Land ownership, guild politicking etc was everything I ever wanted from an mmo. And then the mtx came in and you couldnt progress until you coughed up the dole

It could've been the modern UO; it let you do stuff that few other games ever had... but they wanted to get paid large sums for doing essentially nothing.

The class system was fucking fabulous (you pick 3 base classes and you get a unique combo class)pity it's dead now. Its heavily P2W in later stages to the point its unplayable
