In this video I'm going to be explaining how counts in ballroom dancing work. I'm going to be going over counts 2, 3, 4, and, 1 of Cha Cha basic, as well as 3/4 - 1/4 - 1 timing of Samba.

Having the counts broken down in a way you can see and understand, and therefore learn the process correctly to me is great tutorial. I was able to follow the beats along with the music. I would love to see Rumba counts with hip actions also. Thank you.

Very good. Another difficult topic is Samba reverse rolls. Not one a two, or even one and two, but “one two and”, “three four and”. Tricky.

This is all very good. But I like to see examples of count with different live music going especially with rumba and Cha Cha. I have problem with which beat to count as the first beat and to begin your count.

Thank you😃 Sergey for a very clear and visualized explanation of the beats and counts in Latin Dances. Would you please share your experience and knowledge on how to identify and dance Cha Cha on the "2"? Since Cha Cha holds the "1" , which is quite puzzling to me😵 sometimes I can hear 👂the beats easily, but not always. The musicality is so crucial, once I start on the wrong beat, the whole dance is ruined. Thank you.

Hey! Thank you for your comment. If I understand you correctly, you’re having difficulties starting with the rock step(which is done on 2). I would suggest to start on count 1 since it’s the strongest beat and start from the last step of the chasse, then it all should fall into places. A lot of our students make a mistake adjusting the way they count to accommodate their steps, where they should identify the beat first and then match it with relative steps. But the beat definitely should come first and it should be independent from your steps. Let me know if you have any more questions 😄

They help me understand such important and fundamental concepts of latin dancing, not only just for Cha Cha🙏👍. I have a question...teacher.... In samba beat, 1(1-down),2(n-down),3(a-up) are left foot and 4(neutral) is right foot, 5(1-down),6(n-down),7(a-up) are right foot and 8(neutral) is left foot, right ?

If you take the first step with the left foot than it goes like this: 1 - Step on left foot and start to lower 2 - Continue to lower on left foot 3 - Start to rise on left foot 4 - Change the weight to right foot, continue to rise (not just neutral, higher than neutral) 5 - Step on left foot, start to lower 6 - Continue to lower on left foot 7 - Start to rise on left foot 8 - Continue to rise on left foot So in this case you'l spend 1, 2, 3 on the left foot, 4 on the right, 5, 6, 7, 8 on the left. And the bounce action is 1, 2 - down; 3, 4 - up; 5, 6 - down; and 7, 8 - up. Hope this helps 😄
