thats gotta be the first time ive ever seen a "self insert" where a dev put tdeir own plugin inho a list like this to get the word out. and im not even mad. free plugins are what make music possible for many, and i respect any developer who puts thoir software into the world freely, as information needs to be free for lociety to function optimally.

If anybody ever wants more variety & control over their distortion/saturation, while staying with completely free plugins, I strongly recommend Fire & Krush. Fire has a bunch of very high quality saturation options- you can set them independently for 3 (or I think you can maybe even add more if you really wanted to for some reason? Certainly can take them away) different frequency bands, or globally. It has a bunch of different algorithms for different intensities/types of saturation, knobs for rectification & bias- very nice free VST plug-in. And Krush (also free) is worth having as well, because what it does can’t be achieved with any stock saturator/distortion; it provides 3 different types of more glitch/electro-oriented distortion- down-sampling, a “crush” effect (basically gradually converts more of the sound to noise from what I can tell), & a very nice bitcrush type effect. It also has in-built LFOs so you can oscillate any of these distortions for some crazy undulating glitch effects. I’ve also been really enjoying Neural Amp Modeler, which basically puts the power of a Kemper/QuadCortex in your hands, except for free, & with online communities at sites like ToneHunt uploading more of their amp & pedal models all the time. What really makes it amazing is that it gives these traditional amp modelers (which cost many hundreds to thousands of dollars) a run for their money in quality (while sure, you can never 100% perfectly emulate the analog effects of a real tube amp, a LOT of the really well-done models sound damn convincing, & reproduce everything from palm mutes to the crackle of muted strumming to pinch harmonics with a really remarkable level of fidelity alongside an appropriate Impulse Response (to simulate a mic/mic placement, a room, or another amp/cab/whatever, modulating the sound of the amp model & opening up basically infinite combo possibilities). Since there are lots of awesome high-gain/distorted metal amps you can download, this plug-in is one of my favorite ways to apply distortion now, if that’s what I’m looking for, & especially if I’m playing guitar through it (though I’ve been experimenting with applying the modeled amps to tracks for virtual instruments/sample players a little bit with some successes). It’s hard to overstate how revolutionary this plug-in has already been for me though… I mean, a single amp can cost hundreds, thousands of dollars, so I rarely got to test new ones, & certainly wouldn’t have them all available to use at home, whereas now I have more modeled amps than a damn Sam Ash, many of them insanely sick/vintage ones I’d never get to try for real (since people tend to be more likely to go through the process of training a machine learning model for an amp that’s at least somewhat special to them, or that they like), & it allows you to record the sound of a convincing amp, but directly to a DAW (just guitar plugged into my audio interface, NAM & sometimes a secondary IR plug-in like NadIR by Ignite Amps, because it allows you to blend two Impulse Responses with a lot of control, plus some guitar/amp sim IR .wav files you’ll find online aren’t compatible with NAM plug-in, but they work in NadIR, so I love having both available, & I can record straight to my Ableton Live Lite [one day I’ll upgrade 😭] while capturing what sounds like a bad ass amp captured by a Shure SM57 or an SM7b, or whatever you want, with many IR options for the mic placement in packs like “God’s Cab”). Whereas in order to even just record the real physical amp I have, I’d have to use an actual mic to mic the amp, & then that’s affecting the quality, & then record that, or record live raw guitar signal & then re-amp it- it’s just way more time consuming with far fewer creative options, but on the plus side you do get the full analog tube sound… Or at least whatever your mic succeeds in picking up. So even if you do have a decent amp, I now consider NAM & NadIR a must-have for anyone who is playing or recording guitar through their computer. It’s just amazing. There are tons of other great free &/or open-source plugins, from space effects (Valhalla makes several amazing ones) to synths (Vital, Surge, & for more specialized sounds Pendulate, Monique, or Noisemaker are some of my favorite freebies), but it’d be too much to list in one comment. kiloHearts’ multi-plug-in effects bundle is also fantastic. Very simple, minimalistic UIs, but they look smooth & more importantly they sound great, many useful tools/utilities. And without the constant red strip telling you to upgrade, or periodic noise, or some of them expiring as trials, like you run into with the similar MAudio effects bundle… When I first was learning music production there was a period where I scoured the internet for basically all the best free plugins I could download, so I have quite a list/collection of them. It’s amazing what’s available these days absolutely free! Massive respect & admiration & thanks to the open-source/free/pay-what-you-want developer community.

Orbit is shit, i tried to get it to work for over an hour and it still says "Missing instrument" I did what it said in the manual but NOTHING works, i even went ahead and researched what "Missing instrument" meant, and i did what they said there but still NOTHING HAPPENS. 0/10 would not recommend
