When you eat a lot of sweet foods (as a lot of diabetic people do) the receptors on your taste buds responsible for tasting sugar hey downregulated/desensitised. It's literally the case that these people don't taste sugar the same way we do, they might need 10g of sugar to your 1g to get the same taste I'm glad my thousands of dollar degree finally came in handy once
