I had an actual Penny Racer car when I was a kid. Yeah, they look almost just like those cars with weird proportions. You could tuck a penny in a holder in the back and it would make it do wheelies, spin around, etc. I had no idea this game existed or that I hadn't just dreamed the whole thing. Apparently they still make them? What a weird thing to make into an N64 game.

This game looks kinda like a mix between Snowboard Kids and Mario Kart 64, it looks really fun

This is part of the long running Choro Q series. They’re pretty fun games for the most part. Some of them are full on open world RPG style games too. They’ve been released under many different names in the west; Penny Racers, Gadget Racers, Road Trip.

This challenge has made me realize just how many games have level creators on this console. Kind of wish modern games would do things like that more.

I'm honestly waiting for him to play the Extreme-G series. I absolutely loved those racing games and it also had a sweet soundtrack as well.

I remember the penny racer cars from when I was a kid. They had a little slot in the back to put a penny in to make them drive on the back two wheels. Seems like a strange idea to base a whole game around tho.

I don't know, I think the music in this game is great, and I'd never heard it until just now. I love that "Track Creator" song Thab has playing at the beginning of the video.

I’ve been waiting on this one for a long time. My all time favorite game on the N64

I was waiting for you to play this one, this game is part of a huge line of games that go by Choro Q in Japan. The two games that made up my childhood were Penny Racers for PS2 (not to be confused with this one) that goes by Choro Q High Grade in Japan (チョロQ HG), and Road Trip Adventure that goes by Choro Q High Grade 2 (チョロQ HG2).

You finally got to the only good Penny Racers game! I used to love this game as a kid, it's a shame every other game labelled as Penny Racers isn't anywhere near as good.

As someone who grew up with an N64 and who considers himself well versed in retro games, I continue to be stunned at the sheer number of racing games that exist on this console. 90% of them I wouldn't even know exist if it wasn't for this series.

Quake 2 was so fun on the ps1, I remember playing it with my dad as a kid (I was 7) as I was terrified to play alone, I wonder how the N64 holds up.

I need to give this one a try sometime. I really enjoyed Road Trip on PS2.

I've put many hours into this game & have gotten all the parts multiple times lol it's the only game in which I've beaten the scores on the speedrun boards :)

There's no other N64 game that resembles 2005 Nintendo DS graphics more than 1998's Choro-Q/Penny Racers.

The sequel to this was released exclusively in Japan; I hope you get to that some time. It's just as mental.

Oh man, I forgot I had Penny Racers for a bit…I remember the playing for hours to gain all the special parts. The game was a completionists nightmare because in order to steal the part, you needed the car that had the special part to finish in the bottom 3, but the special part usually meant that they were faster/better than most of the comp so the strat always seemed to be punish that car as much as possible to put them in last and then squeak out a win at the last second. Like Thab said, the game had interesting parts but missed the mark a bit.

I know this channel focuses on finishing the single player modes, but with games like this, can you also show short part of the multiplayer mode? I feel like the 2x2 splitscreen multi-player mode was such a big part of the N64 era

We didn't own this game so we rented it. For what it's worth, it was better as a rental title due to the limited tracks and stuff. I know me and my siblings had a great time with this one.

I Played this game so much as a kid got every item and 1st place on every track on my memory card, (yes you could save your items on a memory card). Also if you honk your horn twice you can do a barrel roll great for tight corners. Edit: Just got to the part where you mentioned the roll

looks surprisingly... fun!

you should see the more crazy weapons you can get. Missile launchers, huge lasers, hyper turbos... makes each race so much chaos.

This game looks pretty good, bet its a fun mp experience when both players grasp all the mechanics.

This game kinda looks like a 3d version of the isometric NES racer RC Pro AM. I think THQ made both games not sure though. But the parts/power ups and track varieties seem reminiscent of RC Pro AM just a 3d behind the car view

Some games I watch the whole video and sometimes I just skip to see which ones coming up next. It's great

As fun as weapon pickups sound I do like the sound of basically making your own build with custom weapons in a game like this. I've never played it but I think you can basically do that in Crossout, I'd love a multiplayer racer where you design your own vehicle instead of everyone getting screwed over by stuff like blue shells which feel more annoying than fair to me.
