Yess I agree so much, the character designs were all great in SV but Larry is definitely my favorite. I think people either love him or hate him, i've heard people say he was the worst gym leader ever 😢

You shouldn’t have let it, I took my team of level 30s to fight grusha and basically fought almost everything massively under leveled and I think level scaling ruins that because a 3-5 level difference isn’t a challenge

Problem is that level scaling isn't as simple as it sounds. There's a lot to consider with it that people don't want to consider. Should it be level based, or progress based? Since level isn't the only factor in increasing the difficulty between gyms (they also get more Pokemon, evolutions, better Pokemon, better moves, better if still simple AI and strategy, better healing items), how do you adjust the balancing beyond level so that they aren't still in some difficulty order but also not all incredibly easy or easy for veterans and challenging for newbies? What do you do about wild Pokemon encounters, when players don't want to be ambushed by level 50 wild Pokemon heading to their first gym, but some players want to be able to find level 50 wild Pokemon on their own terms to get a lucky catch and cheese the game? I'll use Brassius as a simple example. As it is, he is designed to be the second Gym leader. As such, he has 3 Pokemon. A level 16 Petilil, a level 16 Smoliv, and a level 17 Sudowoodo, with a Grass Tera type. His Petilil only knows Sleep Powder and Mega Drain, his Smoliv only knows Tackle and Razor Leaf, and his Sudowoodo only knows Rock Throw and Trailblaze. Very weak, but an effective, if simple, strategy. Sudowoodo, being a Rock type normally, still gets Rock type STAB when it Terastalizes, and Rock Throw gives coverage against most of Grass types' weaknesses, beating Fire, Bug, Flying, and Ice, and dealing neutral damage to Poison, much better than Trailblaze. Again, very simple, but probably enough to catch new players off guard and earning them a defeat. But a veteran player? Even underleveled, a veteran player is likely ready, having Pokemon that can beat Grass with their attacks but don't have STAB, such as a Yungoos with Fire Fang, or even taking a risk using Quaxley or Quaxwell with Wing Attack or something despite its weakness to Grass. But then if you were to scale it, how would that work? If it's based on your level, so what? His Pokemon can already have full movesets, so it's clearly a choice to only give them 2 attacks each. So would that change with their level, or no? If so, now having more moves makes them even better, giving them better coverage. If not, how much more threatening is it at level 50, especially if your Pokemon are around there as well? Higher levels mean more Pokemon that can use a super effective move, more grinding means more stats from EVs meaning hitting even harder with neutral effectiveness, also means more money for better held items. Meanwhile, however, a less skilled player is getting screwed over. The guy that before would have faced Brassius with a level 30 Flamigo so it can guarantee going first and one shotting each Pokemon is screwed because the level scaling means he can't just over level to win. So just by scaling to your level, they've given themselves a headache figuring out how to balance it so that better players can be challenged, because even at level 100, a Sudowoodo with only Trailblaze and Rock Throw is a Sudowoodo with only Trailblaze and Rock Throw, but also not too difficult because that player that would have overleveled already can't so giving that Sudowoodo Wood Hammer, Stone Edge, Counter, and Trailblaze (just because it's Brassius' TM) would basically be rubbing salt in the wound, and still wouldn't be that difficult for a skilled player that EV trains and figures out the best movesets and items to give a Pokemon, especially when that's still not considering giving him more than 3 Pokemon, better healing items, evolving Petilil and Smoliv, giving him held items. Level matching alone clearly isn't the best option. Now, those issues are resolved with progress based scaling, as they can change the teams a whole lot more if it depends on the number of badges you have, and less skilled players can still overlevel to handle them. But that still leaves the issue of wild Pokemon. As stated before, players really don't want to be walking to their second gym when suddenly a level 50 Bisharp attacks them just because they went to Glasseado first, that kind of tells them "hey, this should be one of the last gyms". But while they don't want to be surprised by a high level wild Pokemon on their way to the second gym, some players do want to hunt down a high level wild Pokemon to take a risk trying to catch it, because having a level 50 Bisharp with only one badge makes the next few badges really easy, even with the level restrictions making it disobey sometimes. Hell, people complained that they couldn't even try this in Sword and Shield. Not to mention the fact they clearly tried having a rather believable ecosystem, with some Pokemon appearing alone, some in packs, some that appear in a group surrounding a higher evolution in their line, some surrounding a Pokemon that could be seen as prey or a symbiotic relationship. And not only does having wild Pokemon scaling ruin that, it also screws over those that want to catch Pokemon way stronger than they should have at that point, and can make things awkward for other players as well depending on how they handle balancing like finding Pawmi vs Pawmot vs something else entirely. Imagine trying to complete the Pokedex, but because you did all of the gyms already, you can't catch Pawmi, you need to catch a Pawmot, breed it, hatch the egg, then level the Pawmi so you can also get Pawmo. Or swapping your team around as you progress, but that Pawmi that you caught early on that didn't get much use because you chose the Grass, Electric, and Bug gyms first but would be great against the Water gym you plan to battle next... But it's only level 5 and now the wild Pokemon are level 25, so have fun raising it. Overall, it's not as simple to include scaling as it sounds. There's a lot of other factors and variables to consider, a ripple effect that comes with balancing elements on the fly. That's not to say it can't be done, obviously it can. But it's evident they didn't have much time as it was. Imagine how it would have been had they taken the time to work in scaling as well? And if they took the extra time before release to make it all work right so they could include scaling, we would probably still be two years from release.

Sun and Moon have my heart for second for best story, due to the Gladion and Lily storyline. Only line that compares in SV is the Arven storyline.

Skeledirge is my favourite and the story being good really makes me mad that sword and shield didn’t have a good story when they had such good Pokémon and characters. I love corviknight, eternatus, Dragapult and toxtricity

There really isn't an order to the gyms just what you want to do in what order

The Psychic Gym was my 3rd one I beat which was supposed to be one of the later ones. Crazy to think what you can do with just 4 Team Members.

Not true, if you completed EVERYTHING, including the Starfall Street gangs, you can actually go back and rechallenge the Team Star gang bases. And when you do, Clive will be right there to support you like good old times. Note, the number of Pokemon and their levels are higher than before you beat the game.

It's not that they couldn't design another character they chose not to and have him have a cool story imo. Just a regular salary man who is just doing his 9-5 but La Primera is trying to spark more creativity in him so makes him the flying elite 4 member. When you do your victory lap after the elite 4 and fight him again he has a renews live of battling and even mentions that he has to leave early because hes not allowed anymore overtime

@@ammarlalji5208 While I appreciate that that could be the case, if they wanted it to land and not feel like it came out of nowhere they could've had some sort of setup that Larry plays a bigger role than just a mid-level gym leader. Especially given the fact that the Treasure Eatery is where you can change your tera types, even a line or two from Geeta like 'Larry may not seem like it but he's played a big part in helping us learn more about Terrastallization', or maybe him coming in after your battle and being chummy/familiar with an E4 member since you already see them a lot right after the gym battles. Something to set it up in some small way so that it doesn't feel so random would've been a lot better imo.
