Friday Night Funkin' is an open-source rhythm game released on Newgrounds in 2020. The game is developed by a small group called The Funkin' Crew Inc., which consists of Cameron "ninjamuffin99" Taylor, David "PhantomArcade" Brown, Isaac "Kawai Sprite" Garcia, and evilsk8r. The game shares some gameplay features with Dance Dance Revolution and PaRappa the Rapper and borrows aesthetic influences from Flash games. The game has been credited with driving users back to Newgrounds, a site whose popularity peaked in the early 2000s. The game revolves around the player character, Boyfriend, who must defeat a variety of opponents in singing and rapping contests in order to continue dating his love interest, Girlfriend. Gameplay involves hitting notes with timed inputs while avoiding running out of health for the duration of the song. The game was initially created for the Ludum Dare 47 game jam on October 5, 2020. An expanded demo was released on November 1, 2020, with updates continually released in the following months. A full version of the game backed by Kickstarter, titled Friday Night Funkin': The Full Ass Game, is in development.
Friday Night Funkin': Mario's Madness is a mod directed by Marco Antonio. The mod is centered around Super Horror Mario, a demonic version of the original Mario, from the rather well-known artwork by Devianart. Included within the mod are many fan-created versions of official Nintendo content from the Super Mario Bros. franchise

Lore: BF managed to somehow save the drowning Luigi in Classified Castle, earning him the approval of Stanley, who directed Boyfriend to Hellish Heights for Unbeatable. He also was able to get 8-Bit Mario and Popo to help him beat the song so he can escape with Girlfriend.

I think it'd make more sense for it to be bf, gf, and pico, instead of mr.sys loaning some nintendo characters to help him lose. It even fits: mr.sys vs bf because they're the main honchos, duck hunt vs pico because pico can shoot like in the game, and gf vs bowser because bowser is alway kidnapping the main characters love interest.

Lore cause why not: BF managed to beat everyone, saved L is Real Weegee, which Pleased Stanley in the end, He send help secretly to his side BF still dies in "All Stars", but his soul is intact and encounters the Unbeatable team, not only did Stanley get Popo from Ice Climbers, another NES game But he manifested the OG Mario to his side, It explains why his voice is from Mario 64, it's Mario 64 Mario with the body and appearance of NES Mario And once BF beats Nintendo, he is finally free to escape and go home.
