Stanton had a nice run of DJ mixers in the early 2000. I had a SA-5 Allies Beatdown mixer with the Penny and Giles fader. Also the DJ Focus faders and the Craze signature model too.

DJ Focus came up with SO many mixer innovations. I heard a lot of the concepts that went into all types of DJ mixers from him first. Unfortunately, Stanton just didn't have the build quality.

That SA-5 mixer was badass! It was always one of my favorite mixers. The cross fader was super smooth and buttery.

Give thanks for this! FYI, RE: Telephone cord Power cord on Ranes... that was done to keep the noise from the power supply seperate from the mixer giving it that warm sound.

Interesting! I always thought the 56 sounded so fat and warm, when I switched to the 61/62 in the club that I worked at... I definitely noticed a difference in the sound. The lows were not as big and warm....

Yeah... I found that to be true on Rane's Empath mixers too. Fixing the RS-1 (power supply) telephone clips are easy too... you can get a crimper and clip ends at your local electronic store... strip off the end, attach clip, crimp... BOOM... you're done.

eleven eastgate twelve Good to know! I had 3 Rane 56 at one point. I love that mixer, glad to see it getting some real props in the podcast. I’ve always wanted that Rodec ScratchBox mixer though...

CAT5! LOL! I was an early Rane adopter. I was heavily dissed on D-Style's message board for picking the Rane 54 over a Vestax 05. Everyone said it was ugly and that I needed "construction worker" gloves for those metal transformer switches. Haha! But the sound quality on those early Rane DJ mixers is the bomb. The 2 band EQ on the 54 was kind of cool and I think the 54 was the first effects loop in a DJ mixer (maybe)? Implementation was clumsy though. I still think the 56 is the best analog DJ mixer ever. The the fact that it used magnetic faders that didn't wear out was HUGE. The effects loop was done right, with the wet/dry. RIP Rane. I used to call Chris Duncan at Rane tech support and he would give me all sorts of dope tips about mixer repair, even after I was out of warranty.

I know this is late but Rane is still here and I personally have the seventy as a dream mixer of mine, unless you just don't like the new kit they're dropping?

There is a secret i have to tell about the ttm56 and rane empath. I input my effects loop into line 2. I engage line ones effect loop. Than it allows both channels to control that turntable. So you get a different crossfader and 2 line curves. I discovered this when I was scratching for a band and bought a drum machine 1 table and 3 records.

TTM57 WAS LIFE CHANGING! It had a normal power supply. The 56-s had a normal power supply as well. I don't think many people know how to properly utilize the 57 functions. The joysticks were the best part.

Agree! When you know the pages after a while it's pretty easy. I use also a traktor X1 controller mapped sometimes and I also use Serato remote most of the time with scratch live for the fx, cue and library, it's like having an 72! Really cool to use. Other thing, people don't know is that you can use the mixer "on live" with Ableton synced project with the Plugin called "Bridge". And the other big feature for me, that it's possible to record the mixe directly on ableton project format ".alp" (till live9), to have pre-made channel made with aux,etc...when you open the project. And after having total all acces to modify every midi command made during the mix and do things like, easily add somes scratches on the project to have finally a crazy mixtape. I had 62 too and the build quality was shitty compared the 57, I sold it quick! TTM 57 is a TANK and stay the best features mixer for me, (I forgot the footswitche slot to enable the FX and keep my hands to other things, pretty dope too...), this is why I have another same mixer sleeping in a box for later 😎! P.S.: You can easily change the fader carrier with an aluminum infinity fader or solid cutz (lighter and better for me) and keep this mixer for longer times...

It had effects also. Filter on aux and mic and both channels with delay.

I own the pioneer 909 still in great shape. Love that mixer on the cut. I use to use the Gemini (green) long mixer. i forgot the name. Think it is the KL-10 it was good. had toggles for certain thing. RANE 56 SL is dope. i could not get use to the fader. but it is crazy sharp. 62 is still dope.

Id love a part 3 with the current options of mixers and you guys run through them as djs Pioneer/rane 72/reloop elite seem to be the 3 top choices for turntablist djs in the higher budget range.
@patrickwdoyle

I definitely think the current Serato mixers should be in part 3. It would be great to include the Ecler Nuo 2.0 for those who want a modern Vestax 06 and the Xone 23 for people who want an analog filter instead of a Pioneer filter. Both should have an InnoFader though so that makes them not appropriate for a touring DJ’s rider.

A year ago, I was throwing trash away at my apartment complex, and sitting by the dumpster was a mysterious shoe box, with a fresh Pioneer DJM909 sitting on top of the box. To my disbelief, the shoebox had a fresh CDJ1000 Mk3 in it too; took them boys in, and they both worked! I normally have my little brothers throw the trash, but damn - I’m glad I threw the trash that day. I wonder why the original owner threw them away... 🤔

Little known fact is the Junkies shopped around the schematics and design of a mixer... that would eventually become the S-9 released by Pioneer, then came the Rane 72, which lead to the Reloop Elite, then the cheaper mass produced Numark Scratch.....but the Beat Junkies still get no credit 😳

Tried the s9 at the bjios dmc open cypher and loved the fader. The. 05 4 pro was a sexy f#@*"n mixer. The fader was sooo butter that bish would fully glide when you would tilt it. A bit off topic but also first tried the pt01 with the Jessie dean fader cutting with Jessie at the school and toldem I was sold. I tried the Rane faders and they last, but felt kinda stiff sometimes, felt a bit brittle and were hit and miss w/ some patterns at times. I like the fat fader caps vestax had. Always wanted to try the ecler hak 360 . I would say my favorite faders I've tried is the s9, o5 4 pro, 07, innofader and Jessie dean.they all cut in nice and let me do all my cuts. Not that anyone cares tho. Rant over.
