Solo 1:06
Ending 1:44
A cover of a Larry Williams song. Harrison used his Tennessean I used a 1966 Country Gentleman played through a Vox AD15VT set to AC30TB w/ no effects. Min Bass, Min Mid, Max Treble. .010 -.046 nickel plated wire wound strings. I raised the gain control on my Vox AD15VT to get the overdriven sound. I cut out the first and third verses but all of the lead parts are there -- verse riff, middle eight solo and ending riff. George Martin overdubbed the piano part after the song was recorded.
My videos are really intended for accomplished guitarists who want to polish up their Beatles repertoire and can benefit from "seeing" how a song is played. If the various chords that I am playing are not familiar to you then I would suggest that you visit some of the many free guitar chord sites. I had to learn these songs by listening to vinyl records and watching live performances on tv.

Re: your own comment that The Beatles are a perfect example of "the whole being better than the sum of the parts" : Very true, but what a wonderful coincidence that these 4 parts just happened to end up together! There's NOBODY better. Never was and never will be.

+axiomist Some pretty good parts there. Even Ringo was a great drummer if you forget about flash and just listen to him. Great backbeat.

Harrison set up to do some rather ambitious things in that solo and it is a wonder that this one wasn't rerecorded. Obviously it was a busy time in their career and the time and ability to edit or retake the solo wasn't available. In the Lynyrd Skynyrd song "Call Me the Breeze" during that solo I notice that two parts of it kind of replicate the flubs that occur in the "Slow Down" solo so I took this 20 second segment of the solo and I think you'll recognize these similar(though in Skynyrd's variant rather overheated) bits of rock and country guitar common to each track. kzfaq.infoUgkx_2MWbHE88iIm4NKQAr7yjvuLzhZwjjoW?si=oTChnZKnuiB6AqQE

Thanks for your comment. Most of the Beatles studio performances were a moment in time, never to be repeated. Oh yes, there were the worked out solos that were part of their live repertoire. Implying that the Slow Down solo contained flubs is like saying that DaVinci painted outside the lines or used the wrong color. @yellowsub68 @yellowsub68 Hi, thanx for your comment. I use a free audio editing software called Wavepad, but there are many other free apps available - Google Audio Editing freeware. Using the editing software I just cut out the parts of the song I don't want. You have to be precise or the edits will be obvious.

Thanx for your question. It is a 1966 Gretsch Country Gentleman model 6122. It differs from the Harrison model slightly - tuning machine knobs are Kidney Bean instead of Stair Step and the neck pickup is Supertron instead of Filtertron. There is tons of info on the web.

George Martin is playing the same riff on a piano, plus there is another guitar doing slide up chords. I don't here a 12 string.

Thanx for your comment. I use .010 -.046 nickel plated wire wound strings. Any good brand will do. Guitar, playing style, amp and recording/mixing will effect the sound more than brand of strings.

+Beatles Guitar Secrets Your Gretsch Chet Atkins same as George's when he did the solo?
@BeatlesGuitarSecrets
@BeatlesGuitarSecrets 8 жыл бұрын
+DucksDeLucks Thanx for your comment. Some sources say he used his Tennessean, but I believe it was his 1963 Country Gentleman which has a different neck pickup (Filtertron vs my Supertron) and different tuning machine knobs. Quite frankly, the way the song was recorded you probably couldn't tell which guitar was used - they sound that similar.

I love nuance. You nailed the detail on this one. It's driving me crazy however. What strings and frets are you playing towards the end of the solo at 1:35 to 1:37? You are lifting your finger up and down on one of those strings. I can't seem to recreate it. Thanks for the lesson.

Thanx for your comment. It's quite clear in the video on a large screen. You might use Google Chrome which allows you to slow the video down to half speed. It's XXXX78 and XXXX68 alternating. Leave your index finger planted on XXXX6X so that you can just lift your middle finger and lower it from XXXX7X. Hope that helps.

Nickel round wound. Any good brand will do. Don't believe the stories about Pyramid Gold flat wounds. In the early sixties almost all strings were flat wound, but as soon as round wounds became available the Beatles used them.
