She is one of the finest young contemporary female pianists to have emerged within the last 10 years. Her playing has sensitivity and virtuosity in equal measure. The one thing I admire the most about Beatrice Rana is her straightforward un-theatrical approach which allows the listener to focus purely on the music. I have to say however, her approach to this neglected work is more Lisztian in style than that of Mendelssohn.

This music is new for me. I guess it is an early work by Mendelsson, a melodic, but also dramatic work, and also songable, sort of. And Beatrice gives it all she has. Well played!

She performed better in the competition, perhaps the risk increased the skills and quality.
