It is a lot of work and very expensive. I did remodeling and renovation for 50 years. Now a days it is cheaper to tear it down a build a new one. This one is not that bad though because it was built right in the first place. Just some water damage that they need to deal with.

That's the problem actually they do have protections. If you buy it you can only use the most expensive paints you can NOT ALTER THEIR APPEARANCE. (until the state wants to tear it down of course) They made it so they are impossible to buy and renovate unless you're rich and rich people want new things.. 💯 💯 It is really sad 💯

The woodwork, the finish carpentry cost as much as the basic house. The house was $3,000 and all the woodwork was $3,000. So a house cost $6,000 before WW2 and they went up to $12,000 after the war for just a basic house with no woodwork in it.

The only thing that is protected in so called amurika which is in the center of the world is just another pro jelly lubricant and left hand right next to it

it has to be declared in historic places if someone is interested they can get an injuction to stop til you can prove history

While I see your point I get the impression you have never lived in one of these. Victorian architecture was crude, clumsy, very cold, inconvenient and weird. It's better to just go to the local Victorian house museum in your town (one day in summer) and then go home to your 1995 2,000 square foot home. Trust me on this. One more thing, restoration of Victorian homes is a giant money vacuum cleaner like you cannot imagine.

It's not really individualized craftsmanship though, the scroll work and detailing would all come out of a catalogue mass produced in a factory and shipped to the site. But at least it was real wood, and it's a shame it's being torn down.

@@venus_envy I would have to disagree with you. In that era when building, a lot of people had wood workers on side with a lathe, carving piece by piece. Where I come from in Canada anyway. Might be different down state.

I'm surprised the historical society didn't stop this house from being torn down. It's in great shape to be so old. What a waste of such beauty.

It wouldn’t require 10 million. Probably 75k in renovations if someone did some of the work themselves and the big work for pros. Then it would probably be worth a couple million at minimum, depending on specs in area, amount and quality of land and location. Be a great Bed and Breakfast.

It was remarkable seeing the curlers on the bathroom counter and the little choir programme on the bed like someone was there at one point reading it and just left it in the bed.

I live in a C. 1889 Victorian house in Maryland. On the walls of the back steps, are pictures of the family that built the house. Research was done on the family, and on the back of the pics are whomthe person is, DoB etc. Really really neat to have. Plus, we found initials catches in a kitchen window. I love old homes.

It's a romantic notion to save all these houses. But it's not that easy and some are just not able to be saved. I've renovated a few of these houses and it is always problematic and extremely expensive.

I don't understand why so much History is being torned and destroyed. It seems people don't want to be reminded the 20th century is here and we need to know how those before us lived.So we can learn how to survive the hard ships of today.

I'm really into old houses and imagine myself living in all I see in my hometown it has sooo many old historic homes Victorian and brick style. This house is literally my dream home and I was imagining the whole time I watched this video lol.

What I find so sad is when people try to "update" older homes like this as we saw the kitchen was so different, then later you had that drop-ceiling which makes me wonder if someone tried to convert the room to an "office" space... I've seen many explorer vids where homes/buildings were "updated" with walls/ceilings that were so ugly and then when you look behind them and find real craftsmanship with various designs in woodwork, pillars, ceiling trim etc. It's just that it's old, discolored or in slight disrepair...

@ Julie Davis, It is sad to destroy something so beautiful. If this house was restored the intended land and housing developments on the property would probably be worth much more. Can you imagine how wonderful it would be to own a home like this one? It's a real beauty. You'd be surprised at how many beautiful places there are, in Tennessee, that are destroyed for nothing but greed.

@M.J.G. Yes. The Queen Anne homes with the turrets are Lovely! The gingerbread work is intricate but I tend to find less is more with it. I like ones with a bit maybe as accent on porches, not so much inside.

I don't think you can tell from this video how structurally sound it is or how simple it would be to make it livable again.

Crazy thing I saw. Tornado ripped through an area close to my town. Many of the newer homes received tons of damage. A older historic home on the outskirts was directly hit by it and other than some of the woodwork on the porch and roof we're torn off. Just goes to show how much pride people took in their work back then. I genuinely wish I could experience life and times back in the day when everything didn't move so fast

My sister owns my grandparents farm. Its hers, out and out, so I really shouldn't complain and I dont. But... when I was a kid I loved that place, wood paneling, Grams knitting and crochet work everywhere, fire place crackling. I would watch black and white cowboy movies with my grandfather after big meals and it was a challenge in that place to not slip into an oh so comfortable sleep. And it had ghosts. But in a good way, they knew us, there wasnt a hostile vibe at all. My sister works among the ritch yuppies in the high end towns much removed from where we live, they have their homes decorated white, cold, and often black marble and such. Good for them, but to me these stark white houses are cold and uninviting. So in wanting to be like the folks on the hill she has redecorated the old farm in the image of the new style, I hate it. I dont go there anymore. I dont want to hurt her feelings, I just dont talk about it. Old houses, and particularly old farm houses have a real " homey" vibe that is hard to produce with cash.

I’m 30 and wish I had the money to buy an old Victorian home! Craftsmanship is amazing, shows how far we’ve gone away from it. You look at the homes from then and look at the ones now and can’t help but think what happened?! Absolutely a beautiful home.

Lmao, yeah beautiful until you get down to the Texas Chainsaw style basement. Best thing to do with this is tear out any remaining wood stuctures ..... staircases, fireplaces, trim, doors etc, then light a match and fill the basement in with a skid steer after it's all said and done.

Perfect adjective to describe this monstrosity, oozing, with filth, vermin, probably disease. This is what DECADES of neglect do! Those that are foolish enough to think they could restore this to it's former glory are seriously fooling only themselves. You would be bankrupt before any change happened.
