@@kenziepickles A let down? Thing is....this was a true story and it happens in affluent families also. Drug addiction is a real pandemic that needs to be addressed in all classes. Sometimes there is not significant "backstory", which makes addiction even more elusive. I think that is part of the purpose of telling this story. Drugs are addicting and destroy lives (period).

thank you. I have schizophrenia and when i watched this movie I felt like it was about me and my mother. I especially felt it when Timothee said "you need to be controlling everything" at Steve Carell. I have never been so badly that I had to run away from home, but the whole rehab thing and the addiction thing was like me in rehab because i keep relapsing because I didn't want to take my meds. Addiction and mental illness are very different things, one has to keep popping pills the other has to stay away from pills, but the movie painted a picture so similar to mine. I wouldn't eat my meds because I wanted to feel really good all the time (hypomania). My mom kept putting me in rehab and i was and still am so angry and hurt. But after watching this movie I try to put myself in my parent's shoes everytime. I hope I will recover and never relapse again, please pray for me.

God bless you bro, I can relate cuz everytime I relapse after returning from rehab I can see the disappointment and helplessness in my mother's eye too. And I hate myself for it. She says that she has never lost in her life even after my father's death, but I failed her miserably. I can't kill myself cuz she ain't got anyone apart from me. I don't feel pity on myself but her that she has got such a worthless son. But deep down I love her so much, and she knows this. This drug addiction is such a disease that I feel so helpless and cornered.

Hello, first of all I’m sorry for everything you have been through! I really have no words for what I just read… I think it’s brave for you to live a life that you don’t want to live because of your mom, since she has no one else. But as much as it is brave it’s also awful. I know it’s hard and I really can’t imagine what you have been through and continue to go through, but please try to handle day by day. And remember you matter, if you didn’t I can assure that I wouldn’t be writting this message. Life is not easy, we all have our ups and downs, one more than others but at the end of day we just have to keep fighting. Even when we don’t want to, ESPECIALLY when we DON’T WANT TO! I believe in you! I once had an awful habit and I really didn’t know to stop it. I mean I had spent years doing it and I hadn’t realized how addicted I was until I couldn’t stop it. It was like an escape from reality… My advice is to not cut off immediately, but rather stopping little by little. I don’t know if this is the best way to cut your addiction to drugs. Because our addictions are not the same, but I really to help you. So if you need anyone to talk I’m here! Have a great day/ night!❤️

That would be actors like hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ed Harris, micheal Shannon, even Clint Eastwood hasn't won an oscar for acting. Amy Adam's has been nominated five times. Sorry if it's a tangent, but all these comments are acting like his whole career has been nothing but snubs. He's been nominated one time for a movie he shouldn't have been nominated for. Guys like Ryan Gosling for blade runner 2049 or Jeremy Renner for Wind River or Hugh Jackman for Logan. This isn't me dissing him either.

I am already crying! I lost my beloved middle son to an accidental to an overdose in 2011. In prison for the first time ever, with NO Police Record,,, Never even arrested before... He robbed a couple of pharmacies for his Oxycontin and Xanax bars! He used my BB Gun as his robbery weapon. We were in Arizona, and there I begged the judge for mercy, as my son was not a career criminal, (he had never spent a night in jail) just a very sick addict! I asked for a lock-down detox/rehab for him. The judge said they had no programs, and he proceeded to give my son a 13 1/2 yrs prison sentence!!! His first year in a Tucson prison, the prison inmates introduced my son to Heroin (in Prison!)! I was so shocked!!! I NEVER KNEW ILLEGAL DRUGS ARE IN OUR PRISON SYSTEM!!! We had to wait over a month for their investigation to see if my son had been murdered. A COUPLE OF DAYS OR WEEKS LATER, I GOT THAT CALL FROM THE PRISON! MY SON WAS DEAD!!! I SCREAMED AN INHUMAN SCREAM FROM THE DEPTH OF MY SOUL... MY CHILD WAS DEAD!!! NOT AT HOME, OR IN THE STREETS, BUT INSIDE AN ARIZONA PRISON, AND UNDER THEIR CUSTODY!!! THAT IS WHEN I REALIZED, I MUST HAVE BEEN THE STUPIDEST NAIVE WOMAN IN AMERICA!!! IT WAS NO SECRET, AS MANY PEOPLE TOLD ME AS TIME WENT ON THAT ILLEGAL DRUGS IN PRISON AND EVEN JAILS IS NOT UNCOMMON!!! IT'S BEEN 7 YRS NOW.... AND I STILL FIND MYSELF SOBBING WHILE DRIVING... I MISS HIM SO MUCH! MY LIFE HAS NEVER BEEN THE SAME! I HAVE BEEN AN ADVOCATE FOR FAMILIES THAT SUFFER FROM ADDICTION IN THEIR FAMILIES... NOW ALMOST 200 LOVED ONES DIE EVERY DAY FROM AN OVERDOSE, OR FROM DIRTY HEROIN AND THE FENTANYL COMING IN FROM MEXICO IS LACED AND KILLS THE USERS. YES, I BELIEVE THAT SAFE INJECTION SITES WILL HELP SAVE LIVES.... BUT THEY MUST OFFER DETOX/REHAB... BECAUSE THE ADDICTION MUST BE STOPPED! YOU MAY RECOGNIZE MY CHILD ACTOR SON, STAGE NAME "CARL STEVEN" MY SON CARL... WAS MY "BEAUTIFUL BOY". Carl Steven (1974-2011) YOU CAN LOOK HIM UP...... www.imdb.com/name/nm0828186/?ref_=nv_sr_1

Cindy, I am so very sorry for your loss. I'm in a coffee shop having to wipe my eyes as I am heartbroken and I feel your pain and sense of loss. It is a crime for our government to treat people with addictions like criminals. I lost my closest friend 4 years ago to suicide because he could no longer deal with the addiction and I was powerless against his internal demons. (1974 - 2014) It is time that we in this country start realizing that addiction is not something to be ashamed of, any more than someone should be ashamed of having an allergy. We need treatment for our loved ones, not punishment for a disease they did not cause. For those who are dealing with addiction and for those who love an addict, please visit www.beautifulboyinfo.com/. "Addiction is not a crime, Addiction is not a choice, Addiction is a disease, Addiction is preventable, Addiction is treatable. " - David Sheff

I’ve not cried like this before. This is a similar story to myself. Eldest child, single mother and father that married my step mother and since I was 18 I was putting him through hell with addition. No matter how many times I left my dad down he stuck by me and almost lost his marriage. Thanks to him I’m almost a year sober. This hit different and it made me feel things I haven’t felt before. I owe my father my life

This movie moved so many feelings on me... My dad was an alcoholic and he past away one year ago. Of course is not the same, but it's an addiction. So many times I ask myself "why?" and feel so bad that as a family we were not able to communicate properly to help him. So, this movie really made me cry. I hope that everyone who is going through an addiction has support and the unconditional love of their family and real friends, it's a really hard situation. Very very good movie.

(POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD) I’ve watched this movie and I really like it. It’s hard not to see Steve Carrell as Micheal Scott but I think it is important too. Steve Carell has really developed as an actor and I thought this performance was excellent. You really felt like he was the dad and that in my opinion is one of the most amazing parts of the movie. I think it adds to the central theme of changing over time and struggling to find who you are. Obviously it’s a bit different in the boys case (sorry forgot his name watched it a little bit ago) because he is suffering with drug abuse. Overall I really liked this movie and I definitely recommend watching it.

Lost a dear and beautiful friend to addiction several months ago on her 29th birthday. Watching her journey over her last 10 years was both extremely hard and also joyful in those moments of triumph and victory even if, in the end, she wouldn’t win this battle. I miss her dearly and I think about her and her family often. My heart is with her mother, young son, and brother as they attempt to go on with out her after just losing their husband/father/grandpa to addiction as well, only a year earlier.

@@giovanni141666 if it was so easy to just take micro doses we wouldn't have such a huge problem with narcotics. the point of all this is that once you try them, you usually want more and more because your body becomes used to the same dosage and therefore the effect that it gives is not the same, so for you to feel that high again, you have to take in bigger doses. i wish it was that easy to just take small doses but sadly it's not.

It depends entirely on what drug you’re taking. Party drugs such as ecstasy, weed, psychedelics, ketamine etc are mostly harmless. In fact alcohol, cigarettes or even fast food are much worse than this stuff (assuming you don’t abuse them). It’s really only when you get into hard drugs that it becomes bad or has effects such as this. I think the miseducation around drug use if very detrimental to the western world these days. A lot of drugs can be used as avenues to free thinking and looking at the world from outside perspectives. I mean eventually these drugs will be legal and regulated like marijuana...

Nick Sheff and his father’s books- Tweak, We All Fall Down, and Beautiful Boy- are the best accounts of drug addiction and recovery I’ve ever experienced. This really opens people's eyes to addiction and how there is so much more to it. People who have dealt with addiction need that little bit of trust, hope, and unconditional love to keep going on and push through it. Cutting people off who have addiction is the worst way to deal with it, because after that it's hard for them to find a way out or light at the end of the tunnel... especially if they have nothing to go home to.

Such a great and powerful movie... sadly in my life I play the part of the dad... but it being my partner I lost due to drugs. He used to say "Just leave it, it's my life" why couldn't he see all who love him were involved, were hurting... it caused me a major breakdown. I ended up leaving him, and he gave up... he lives, or should I say exists, broken and damaged. This was back in the 90s... it was 2021 I started to write a book about us, and a musical tribute, for which I rewrote a very short form of the book in a slideshow to the music. I hope in ways it helps others, maybe saves lives, for it truly is a tragic story that after 26yrs still affects us both, in our separate lives. He truly had the most beautiful of souls... but was taken into drugs in his early teens, and as like said in the movie, the drugs were not the problem, simply that which masked the reason... For Guy his sexuality which terrified him, and so needed an escape from reality when not with me, as he just couldn't handle things, the fear of his true self... which was truly such a precious, wonderful being, and such a loss to the world, though I was the only person ever he showed his true self to, and I do feel so honoured and proud to have been his partner who knew the true Guy. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bpN2n7Olkp6Ugmg.html

I say that from experience as an independent, almost 30 year old, with a counseling master's degree, who was raised by a single mother who went through hell and back with abuse, divorce, working 4 jobs, etc and never forgot to remind me she loved me every day.

1:28- 1:30 I've always thought of Steve Carell's voice as a device of comedy, but now he's starting to seem like such a terrific dramatic actor

This is a spitting image of my brothers story, and it hits so close to home, you have no idea. He is still on the road to recovery but it is amazing by even the trailer they portray the hurt and how it really feels to have someone young in your family sick and addicted. God bless the actors and creators of this because it is real life for me and so many others.

this movie is a clean 9/10 from editing, performance, music, ambience etc and it explains so well about the effect drugs has on ones life. Not many movies make me cry but there was one heartbreaking moment that just struck my heart hard. This is one of the best movies I have ever seen, I recommend it so much.

I'm going to go for 10/10 for authenticity, collaboration, study, and such realistic performance. Also, the screenwriters did not try to glamorize the lifestyle. There really isn't any glamorous about any addiction. I wish that it would come back into theaters to be combined with a strong message throughout the community that addiction is not a choice, it is a disease. Politicians need to start providing funding for recovery programs. Addicts need to know there is no shame in getting help. Back in the day, when I was living my "Tweak" but with coke, I would be sitting on the curb outside of a church. I was just sitting and not begging. The horrible things that came out of the mouths of the people leaving the building still ring in my head over 25 years later. WWJD?

I cried so much during this movie. both of my parents are addicts and they've promised me so many times that they would quit, get a job, and save money so I could live with them but it still hasn't happened. my grandpa recently died and it makes me so upset that he never got to see my dad get better and be happy. my dad caused him a lot of stress and this movie reminded me of that. it was a good movie though.

I was really afraid to watch this movie but I just finished it on Netflix. I went through some of this with my child and it’s so hard and heartbreaking because you really have to let them go. You have got to let them go. My child made it and he’s doing unbelievably well. God is great.

I'm not a parent but I can imagine that it must be the most difficult thing to do, let go of your kid, when all of your instincts are screaming at you to protect them. If you could, you would. But you can't always save them. I feel for all parents who experience this nightmare.

Hey, if you're struggling with an addiction, just know you can make it through and you aren't hopeless. Even if it seems like you've burned all bridges because of your addiction, those people just wanna see you make it, and you will make it, just keep fighting!

I just saw this movie and I cried A LOT, I’ve been struggling with addiction myself and I could relate to how Nic was feeling and behaving. It’s fucking sad and adaptions like this is important, I think especially in the US where addiction and drug abuse doesn’t get the government funding it needs so bad it all the “positive” attention it can get…. Timothée gives a great preformance. I’ve been clean for 3 years now 🙏🏼🫶🏼
