I grew up in Detroit in 50’s and 60’s. Downtown was so wonderful bustling with shoppers and office workers. Bravo Detroit! Your recovery is well under way. And the restoration of important structures is very evident.

What many watching this video have to realize is that from a decade to even as little as a few years ago, there was nothing here. NOTHING. Practically every storefront was empty, every street trashed, most skyscrapers vacant and vandalized, or not existing yet. Through government cooperation, business enrichment, and community involvement, this city posed a serious 180 and is on its way to being the jewel it once was. It’s now fiscally responsible, and able to finally start reinvesting in its neighborhoods, which hopefully will be a future video here. It may not ever be as populous as it once was, but the promise that lies before it is immeasurable.

Every street trashed? In downtown Detroit?? Even at its low point the streets in downtown were not trashed and it was about a 8 to 10 years ago that most store fronts were empty. Downtown Detroit is like night and day compared to what it was but let’s not act like this just happened over night

You obviously don’t remember the 1980s, 90s, when the only thing downtown on the streets were hobos and hookers. You don’t remember seeing building after building being boarded up, then the boards coming down and the building ransacked. Growing up on the westside and taking the lodge down daily, I promise you your description, and likely your perception, is off. I could continue to talk on this but I’ll just let the camera talk… go to Google maps and take a stroll on the street view. In many spots it goes back to 2008-2012. Take a look at the streets, the buildings, businesses and so on. Then compare it to any shot past 2019. Go for it 😊

I didn’t deny buildings being boarded up, bums on the streets, etc. All I said was that you saying that all streets were trashed and absolutely no store fronts occupied until the last few yew years is a total exaggeration. I’ve lived in metro Detroit for over 50 years. I’m not some random guy from Kansas City acting like I know the story about a town I’ve never lived in. Things were very bad but I had no problem taking visitors downtown even 25 years ago to see what was there smh

@@Uncommonsense79 And yes, you can google streets that were trashed in or around downtown but don’t act like it was “every street” as you say. Years ago, there wasn’t much down there but the streets in downtown Detroit were fine. I even worked in downtown Detroit about 22 years ago and it was not trashed like you’re making it out to be.

I do have to agree with Rianna that Downtown Detroit City, Wayne County, Michigan is really, really, beautiful ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. I also have to grant many kudos to Rianna for chronicling the most beautiful aspects of an American big city that are otherwise both ugly and troubled at the same time 😃😃😃😃😃. ¶ I wonder if legendary country music artist Bobby Bare has viewed Rianna's above video. Just in case you don't know where I am coming from, Bobby Bare is famous for his musical interpretation(s) of the song titled "Detroit City" 🎼🎶🎸🎛️🎚️🎙️💽; on the RCA Victor Records' label 😃😃😃😃😃. The song "Detroit City" is an oldie but a goodie 😃😃😃😃😃.
