What is the spray used to finish this off? Also do you line the tubs for protection? This has given me a few ideas for my new garden in my new home. Looking forward to taking a few pallets apart now, and getting to work. Thank you!

Great job! Love the idea! Maybe I would first join the bench to the planters by pocket holes and then finish by adding the last top piece. So you won't see the pocket hole.

This is a very nice job. It can be in the garden. It can be on the front porch and you can sit down and take your shoes off before you go inside.❤

I’m thinking adding another bench to make an L shape would be provide extra seating. I have enough scrap 2x4 I retrieved from the dumpster at a neighbors remodel job to do this. Free benches, yeah!

Please use some kind of guard on the planner folks. Great job on the planter/bench but without fingers your woodworking days going to be a struggle. 10 mm (3/8" ) between the fence and guard and your workpiece is the standard in the UK.

I don't think there is much safety concern there.

@@debrazawlocki3975 sadly is the case in a lot of countries and a whole bunch of arguments about cost of items they produce but as a joiner I feel it's up to the user to make sure as much safety is in place. Suppose I'm saying just be as safe as we can and we can keep our fingers till we are old and wise.

I loved the result, it stayed incredibly beautiful as it is, and you still can make a few changes here and there, but quiet easy to make if you have the proper machinery, well done, job perfect, anyone would like this vase bench in the garden, in the entrance, anywhere as desired, I would prefer dark brown or grey for the entrance and dark green for the garden. Thanks for an awesome idea, all the best.

This could be done with a skill saw, sander, hammer and nails without expensive equipment.

I have made something similar but I used pocket screws to fix the slates on the bench from below. You get a better finish with no screw heads on show that will ultimately corrode. The finished piece would look a lot better with a good wood stain and varnish protection.

You can use decking screws which won't corrode and if screwed in deep enough the wood grain will cover the screw heads. I have to look really hard to find the screws used in my decking, which is why I know this.
