I absolutely love petrified wood! The mineral replacement is so unreal and some blooms so much like wood, you wouldn't know it was petrified without picking it up! And those were all amazing! You can't pick a favorite pet wood! They just are what they are! And it's all just amazing to me! But I have to admit that the last one was pretty spectacular! They were all stunning really! Lol! Thanks for sharing Jason❣️

The very first one you showed would be ideal for pendants. People are often looking for Black stone Jewelry

You could try bleaching the dark ones to see if you can bring out the grain.

That's a good idea but i prefer the natural look. Dont like to alter the appearance.

Do you think our Bay of Fundy Limbcasts have the most variety of minerals in them from what you've collected or received?
@jpvoxdawg
@jpvoxdawg 29 күн бұрын
Limbcasts are cast from the cavity left behind after the limb rots away where as petrified wood is actually fossilized wood and the opal is a silica rich water solution that fills the cavities the same way a limb cast does. Given there is no fossilized wood in a limb cast the quantity of minerals would be higher yes. As for variety that would vary from piece to piece, at least that's my understanding (I'm not a geologist).

@@jpvoxdawg Thanks for the clarification. I suppose hearing Limbcasts termed as per wood by others I simply assumed they were essentially the same thing.

The BOF limbcast are definitely unique. I haven't really seen anything like them from other elsewhere

Odd looking rocks eh? Is there a practical use for petrified wood or is it mostly shelf art? Cheers from Hubtown

I find they are best suited for display specimens. Especially full round pieces. Others are good for jewelry making.

@@RockhoundingLife yeah I call it shelf art lol. Like my decorative little wooden items I produce. Trick is to convince someone else to put it on their shelf I guess! I check in your Etsy store often, good items there! Cheers

I inherited several different rocks from my Sister’s Fiancé. About five are petrified wood. When he was younger he would travel as a rock hound and collect specimens. He had no children so my Sister told me to take them. I may be wrong but I think you are not allowed to collect petrified wood in national parks???? More of a question than statement. One is cut and polished with gorgeous bands. It’s more potato like.
