Lived right on the Delaware canal in Yardley back in 1977 my early 20s loved it.

The canal reminds me of places in the uk. It's just beautiful! Those people must love living along there.

Wow that canal area is a real wildlife corridor! It's so important to have these because it allows wildlife to get from one ecosystem/ hunting ground to another safely in a suburban environment, and in this case with the added benefit of a water source. We just created the first man-made wildlife corridor here in So. California, ( north San Fernando valley) a bridge with native plants and trees over a busy freeway allowing wildlife, especially mountain lions, to cross safely and increase their territory. Really enjoyed this video Cliff. 👍

That canal was fully functional and in tact in the 60's and 70's. We would paddle a canoe up and down on weekends. You could paddle the entire canal back then. We would do multi-day canoe/camping trips when I was a kid in the boy scouts. The canal would be very busy with loads of canoes on weekends. Many people who lived along the canal would run canoe rental businesses from their back yards. The state had planned to fully restore the canal before several destructive floods convinced them to abandon the idea. Hurricanes Floyd and Sandy did a lot of damage to that area. There was also a blizzard (36 inches of snow) that flash melted in a quick warm up and heavy rain storm in the 90's that caused widespread flooding.

Love to see you in my current neighborhood. You’ve already visited my old stomping grounds in Columbia, Luzerne and Berks counties. Further north is another aqueduct which is technically a covered bridge listed in some of the Pa. Covered bridge books. Definitely unique.

For those who haven’t grown up along the Delaware River, this canal was busy with barges, carrying logs to be milled downriver, iron ore to be smelled and other materials. They used donkeys or mules to be more precise, they were called mule barges They used the canals on both sides of the river, in New Jersey too but mainly used on the Pennsylvania side. I was born in 1960 and lived there in Trenton until I was 10 and moved to Yardville. But the canal, Bowman’s Tower and Washington Crossing State Park was my favorite place to go. Many generations of my family have walked through the Delaware River Valley, Lehigh Valley up to the Water Gap.my last hike in that area was with my older sister and I ended up doing 35-40 miles of walking. As kids we would have a big family bbq at the State Park and crossed the little stream and us kids would climb up the hillside to Bowman’s tower. Back then lol there was no elevator to the top. I went back there in 2003 and saw they put an elevator in. No fun if you can’t ascend it like they did in the past. So so many of my family still go there in the summer. I hiked in all weather

This reminded me of something when I came down from NY to walk Morrisville to New Hope about 5 years ago -- I went out on the road at Wash. Crossing to get a snack at a Dunkin Donuts. When the clerk rang up my purchase, he stopped and said "whoops we can't have that!" -- my purchase had added to $6.66 -- so with some creative re-keying he was able to change it to a few cents less. I felt reassured that Pennsylvanian's are keeping a watchful eye to keep the devil out of the donuts! Thanks for another lovely trip, Cliff!

When you do the next section between Washington crossing and new Hope, be on the lookout for two interesting spots: 1. Just north of Washington crossing there is a small cemetery with graves of revolutionary war soldiers that died from disease around the Washington made camp near by. 2. Just south of new hope, next to Odette's there is a spot between the canal and the river where there was a transfer point of canal barges across the river to the D&R canal.

Looking forward to watching your trip north on the canal. I lived in Southampton and Bensalem over 30 years ago and now I’m in Maine. It was nice to see some of the places we used to frequent!

My dad grew up right around there. I remember seeing that floodgate with him as a kid and him telling me of them using it in the 60s/70s

... also, they're doing work on the canal up above Washingtons Crossing. That's why no water. That Aquaduct at Hough's Creek is where the flash flood was that swept away cars and killed a bunch of people last year from Taylorsville road.

Alot of memories for me in this episode. You passed .my childhood fishing spot in Morrisville, rode under the Scudder Falls bridge where I worked before retirement and where I boarded my horse. The path you climbed down on was how I got my horse to the tow path from the stable. You were lucky that the geese did not chase you. The reason there is little or no water in some parts of the canal is because a hurricane came through and the flooding breached and damaged the walls of the canal.

Isn't much nicer going on a bike and you can get many miles in a shorter amount of time. Love seeing all the geese and their babies and the turtles were adorable.

It's nice you can point out the wildlife and say what we're looking at. You can do that with a lot of the vegetation as well. Awesome turtle picture.` I know I say it a lot, but all that beautiful green is lovely. to see.

The bicycle makes sense on paved surfaces. Taping the camera to the handle bar is a good steady cam set up.This is way more economical.

Ringing Rocks would be a great video check it out. They drained the canal in spots and the army Corp of engineers was supposed to dredge it but never did

Cliff, do you find fat tire bikes more difficult to peddle? I have a fat tire e-bike but she's a handful when the battery dies.
