She used to play on the steps of Low Library. We never had any idea that she would be, or wanted to be, a known singer. We thought she'd be another David Peel, a local (and sometimes neighborhood....) performer. Boy, were we wrong. And when she did "Candle In The Rain", wow. Huge hit internationally. We were all really proud of her. Those were very, very different times. Anybody today know of a hit-making performer who has played themselves from the streets to international fame? Without any media boosting TV show behind them? Didn't think so.

What a face; what a spirit!! OMGosh, just an absolute one-off. I had such a crush on her back in the day-I was 12 when Woodstock happened, and I became aware of her around that time. Lay Down always brings tears to my eyes. So much has been lost, so it’s real soul medicine to be able to see these videos.❤❤

It was quite some time before I knew what she looked like. There was no such thing as music videos, and I didn't spend much time in record stores, so I didn't see an image of her for I don't know how long. When I was 19 in 1970 I had a HUGE CRUSH on Melanie. I pictured the two of us sitting around a campfire and talking about life. Then in August of 1994 I drove up to the original site of the Woodstock Festival on the 25th anniversary. This was totally amazing. Melanie was performing with her daughter and son. After her set she mingled with us. I introduced myself to her. She was so nice and friendly. Then I told her of my huge crush I had when I was 19. She liked that. Luckily I brought my camera with me. I have this great picture of the two of us together. Beautiful People is my favorite song by her. MAY YOU RIP BEAUTIFUL MELANIE.

Such an in-depth, thoughtfully archived video journal of our Woodstock beauty that few of us have ever seen before - or, for that matter - knew of its existence! How delightfully refreshing it is to see this 'new' footage of Melanie and Peter together from their earlier days of music! Sung from her heart , with all honesty , grew up with her , before tv , with my mum , it was her voice , and still performing , amazing , really amazing ! She came to Derby to perform all her songs , me and my sister had been begging her ! Melanie was brilliant , obviously , made Mum , big sis and somehow me cry ! After doing Woodstock in 69 , so young , overcoming difficulties , and coming to derby to a small audience , shows her love of people , and her love of singing , and making joy ! I and my sister will forever be grateful , Like my Mum , who sadly passed away soon after this great event , she was so contented , never seen Mum so happy !

I keep finding these songs that I forgot she had recorded. It's sort of like walking in a meadow after a summer rain rain when the sun comes out and starts warming up the world and drying out the grass and wildflowers.

Her voice was not over the track enough AND then, I heard the reverb. Can’t sing with reverb! She was right on both times. Love her contributions, what a boon to the ‘70s.
