Now see when I do this, I have the Bobby pin marks in my hair! How do you prevent that

Hair looks great and I love my hair pin curled. But just an FYI.... my front tooth moved from repeatedly using it to open the bobby pins....enough to need braces to move it back. This was over the course of many years. I still pin curl I just don't use my teeth to open the pin.
