This off-grid cabin was self-built by a family in Ontario, Canada to be a cozy fairy tale getaway in the woods.
When you first get here, it’s hard to believe that there will be enough room inside because it looks so small from the outside, but it actually has a pretty comfortable setup with a kitchenette and a full living room with a wood stove on the main floor, and a sliding staircase ladder that leads to a super roomy loft that you can walk around in thanks to the big dormers.
For electricity, the cabin runs off a home made solar power set up, with 3 x 100 watt solar panels and a 230 amp hour battery bank. The whole house is wired like an extension plug so it can easily be plugged or unplugged from the power source.
For water, they’re currently bringing it in as needed but they will be setting up a rainwater collection system soon. There’s a low-tech foot pump that’s super quiet to operate and requires no electricity.
And for heat they've got a big wood stove.
This cabin/tiny House was finished in 2021 and it cost approx. $20k CAD to build. A bit more than half of that was the cost of the materials. The family built most of it themselves which helped reduce the cost but they also hired professional help for some of the tasks.
The cabin measures approx. 16' x 12' on the main floor and it sits on a poured concrete pier foundation.

We have a ladder like this to our loft. My husband always called them “ ship stairs”. Sort of a cross between ladder and stairs, and easy to use.

Great video! Here in the mountains of New England in the middle of nowhere just moved into 10 acres, I’m trying to fix up an old cabin and starting a veggie garden. I’m 22 trying to stay out of big cities where day by day gets harder and dangerous to live. Just started my channel and let’s see how it goes. Work hard to make your life better bc politicians never will.

Truth to that. A frames are so perfect in NE. I'm from NH--moved away recently--but the snow falls off. If you're not from New England I'd definitely recommend a woodstove and small generator. If you lose power for long during the winter, put your milk etc right in the snow. 😂 we learn to be a scrappy, hardy bunch don't we? Good luck: I'll bet you find yourself very content. Edit to add; when I was homesteading in NH (good decade) I'd always wanted a green house to make up for the short growing season. Very happy to see ppl in their 20s making these choices. ❤ best of luck to you! I'll check your channel out

Loving this design and plenty of headroom in the loft area. Lots of natural light entering throughout. Very unique space with the moving ladder inside and the logs to sit on around the campfire on the outside 💯💜🌟💜💯

Fabulous idea for the ladder! It's out of the way, but so easy to pull out and use, and then put away! This is definitely for a weekend, and not for a long term stay, but it's gorgeous in that setting.

Love this design, I am planning something similar in my woods and was looking for some inspiration. I would move those hooks on the door off the window frame and onto the door panel itself instead but otherwise this is a great use of space and design. 🤩 that loft ladder is fantastic

Fantastic set up so inviting love the architecture with big beams, minimalist kitchen but that is enough to feel out of this world, far away in the country, another world. You have to be ready for less confort specially with the shower and the toilet. Clever latter, love the space around the bed. Love also the design, for a salvaged material it is amazing: rough wood and black metal marche so week. Nice music with an hand pan! Thanks!

You've done it again 👏. Beautiful building and great presentation. I love that you gave us more than one look at the ladder. The loft headroom and the angle of the ladder will lengthen the time (until owners are unable to safely access the loft) of comfortable loft use. Thanks for your commitment to quality presentations.

Nice design and material colors BUT who wants an outdoor shower in Canada, and who wants to trek across the woods to the outhouse at night or early in the morning and down a ladder to boot? Kitchen did not have enough space.

I love a-frames, but this one looks cramped. If it's cold enough there to have such a large woodstove, then it's too cold for an outdoor shower. For $149 a night, i would want a toilet.

Nice but that sofa is pretty useless outside of it's bed configuration. The slanted wall/ceiling obstructs your head from reclining comfortably.

If you could actually get the land to do this on without winning the lottery, the build would be super cheap. Building without the gov red tape and BS, you could live large.....and more people would do it. But....keeping you reliant and under control makes it better for rich people...and rich people help the government rich people. And the government rich people make the rules for not rich people to never own shit.

So there's no bathroom in this house first of all and there's this is essentially the same size as a regular average size shed is that what you're saying because this is a perfect size it just needs a little I mean if they had extended the a just a little further they could have accomplished everything they needed they would have had storage space I love that everything was basically stolen from a abandoned houses and or f****** whatever calling it reclaimed I love that the kitchen is a perfect size on the other side of the door the living room's huge I could see myself living in this in the backyard but I need a bathroom that's the thing
