I've been a fan of autoglym for over 50 years - when it was only available to the trade (I was a car valeter in the 1970s)! The reason many people knock super resin polish, is that, on its own it doesn't last overly long. If you finish off with a coat of extra gloss protection wow!!! you'll not only get a much higher glossy finish, you'll find it lasts much much longer 👍Also, if you occasionally use rapid aqua wax, it'll make the car really stand out. Hope this helps.

Yes maybe 25yrs ago, and it still leaves a nice finish, but things have moved on significantly since then. Yes the market is now saturated with jargon and ceramic this and that or the other, but stage correction and ceramic coating is difficult to beat nowadays in my opinion.

Get yourself either some Vista concept long life or Gtechniq C4 for the trim, especially if you use it often/stored outside. What a great transformation!

Who knew you could make a near 40 year old car look almost new again just by giving it a bit of TLC? I'm very surprised by how good the paint looks. 🙂

Removing the plastic side trim transformed the look of the car, and just as you’d hope, brought its character lines out into the foreground. It also make Melody look more modern. Lovely work!

That looks so much better without the strips. Ihad to close my eyes when you started pulling the strip off, I though you would heat it with a hair dryer first to seriously reduce any risk of paint damage. Also the glue would come off easily when heated. My method is to heat and then run some fishing line or dental floss behind it.. finished with tar removed or petrol.. ok, only use petrol of you don’t smoke.

A great effort and result Ed, the car's looking really good. One thing though Ed, PLEASE don't keep sitting on the bonnet like that. The metal studs on your jeans will scratch the paint and it's so easy to stretch/dent the bonnet (in fact any large flat panel) by doing so. I reckon a wheel refurb should be next, that'd really smarten it up.

I have recently clay barred a car too for the first time. Pleased with result. Ultimately saves work. Red is the worst colour for fading with UV. You are lucky with this one. Obviously been garaged all it’s life I’d say. Looks like a different car.

Great video as always and I'm sure many will find your beautifying tips helpful. Coincidentally, last weekend I gave my own old Metro a bit of love and beautification. She's a 1984 A reg MKI MG Metro in black with the grey interior. Mint condition and sitting on 80K miles... but had an engine and gearbox rebuild before I bought her. I have few cars in my collection filling the barn down here in Cornwall and as I'm older than you and semi retired (young) some of those cars are could be considered exotic. Three of them are in the compulsory red and their names begin with an F. But I also have a few cars that are the same as ones I owned in my youth. Nostalgic purchases in an attempt to recapture the youthful fun I had. A MKV Cortina Crusader, a Series 1 RS Turbo Escort MKIII to name a few. But as marvellous as they all are in their own way - even the more valuable ones... it's honestly the old MG that's almost the most fun to drive. They handle like go karts and stick to the road like glue.... and the 72 bhp is more than enough for the narrow country lanes down here. And just like my three F's, she sings to me when I slow down through the gears... "ming ming ming ming" as the old Metro's shambolic gearbox's love to do. Anyhoo... love the channel and great to see your car looking so good.

Claying is under rated, not even just seeing it, but you can feel it as well; first time i tried it my paint felt like sandpaper, then it felt as smooth as glass afterwards. You don't even need anything special for the lube, just mix up water and car shampoo. Autoglym SRP is a great polish, particularly for hand polishing, but it has a bit of a reputation for machine polishing, because it can dry out and cake up quite quickly compared to other polishes. The tip for using it was always just keep a spray bottle with some water in it, and spritz your polishing pad whenever it started to dry out. Getting the super glue off will be annoying, you might be able to find a specialised solvent that only works on the glue, or use acetone and be extremely careful.

If you keep a goodly coat of wax on those tin worm spots they will slow way down in their progress….of course if they’ve appeared on the inside that’s an issue but if only the outside you can keep it at bay for a good while….but stay on the wax!

@bobdobalina2931
@bobdobalina2931 Жыл бұрын
When doing the bumpers etc. don't forget the wiper arms, that really sharpens the vehicle up. Also, never use gloss or matt black - use satin black, it makes the plastic look brand new original. And don't use that terrible tyre soap or tyre black, it doesn't make them look new it just makes them look crap. Get a cloth, splash it over with gun thinners and wipe the walls of the tyre. It takes all the dirt out and makes them look clean but not shiny.
