HI SISTERS! As a makeup artist, you guys see me do my own makeup ALL the time, but I rarely ever get to get glammed by other artists. For today's video, I went to ULTA to get a full makeover! I've seen so many horror stories, but also great makeup, come out of Ulta, so I was super excited for this challenge and to see the finished look. I’m the makeup artist responsible for this makeup. I worked at Ulta Beauty as a hair stylist. I was learning to do makeup on other people at that time. Was never trained in makeup at all. When I did this it made me start doing makeup on other people more. Now I’ve done a few high end celebrities and models in the industry. I no longer work at Ulta Beauty. I work at a high end Beauty Lounge. About to start my own KZfaq. Many of you hate it and probably have never done another persons makeup. But thank you for the criticism and critiques I check foundation tones and several different lightings. But to all haters. Have you ever done aged skin, cystic skin, dry skin, rosacea, and bruising and made them look amazing? Have you ever done 10 different ages women and skin types and issues in one day? I doubt it. So gain a lil experience before you decide to criticize a profession you don’t work in. James If you read this. Thank you for giving me a push I didn’t know I needed. Things can look really different on camera than irl so maybe it did look good in the store but you could already see it was bad on camera

Love the series! But speaking from the beauty blender issue, I actually work at Ulta and the reason we, and probably many stores alike, do not use beauty sponges is just the hygiene issue. You can clean a beauty sponge relentlessly but you never know how clean it's getting, disposable sponges are just safer :)

As a licensed cosmetologist, I can say that we generally use the little wedge sponges to apply makeup to clients because they are always sanitary and disposable after one use. Also I dont think the makeup shade matched you even in the store 😂 maybe the artist just felt you were pale lol.

Morgan it's that weird lighting in Ulta, I hate it so much. I've had to return a lot of concealers because of that lighting

Its actually very common to use those sponges in a professional make up setting because they can be disposed of and never used on another client. Using a beauty blender is very unsanitary to use on all clients because you can't ever disinfect a sponge, therefore you could be spreading all kinds of nasty bacteria on other clients, however using a brush is different because they can be disinfected much more than a sponge.

Exactly. I usually so triggerred that people thought that beauty blender is holy grail in makeup application. Doing makeup on client is a whole different world altogether.

i work at Ulta. & i just want to clarify that the people who do makeup there are NOT makeup artists. They work in the salon and mainly do hair. but with our licenses we can do makeup too. That is the difference compared to Sephora or Mac. They only do makeup there, that is their specialty. Where as at Ulta working in the salon you specialize in hair.

I don’t think it’s fair to make general statements about every Ulta. I believe it goes person to person. In Sephora and Mac, at least where I’m from, they aren’t licensed.

Miss Aliyah at the one that I work at aestheticians are the ones who get the makeup clients because they work with skin if one isn’t available then it goes to the the hair stylist. It all has to do with the licenses.

Yeah, working at Ulta they don’t train like they do at Sephora or Mac as a makeup artist. Ulta does not prize artistry at ALL which is so weird for a makeup store. The estheticians either do hair or facials mainly and makeup as a side thing, most of the time forced to even if they dislike it.

The lighting in store is bright whereas outside the lighting is obvs natural. This happened to me before, I went into Chanel and got a foundation matched it looked good in store but then when I got home my face was literally ORANGE! Also the foundation was sooo patchy and dry

Those sponges are a nightmare to use compared to what we have available to us now! I can't understand why the nose contour in both was a bit odd. This look is the closest to the picture actually. It's not the cleanest but it DEFINITELY looks like the picture way way more than the others. I think the MAC eye was the best as far as skill. However, this eye look is my favorite because it really shows off your eyes

Omg THANK YOU for mentioning the bad lighting. I have noticed horrible lighting in almost EVERY ulta I’ve been to.. as well as other make up stores. That’s the number one necessity for proper application!

I know, im not comfortable someone else choosing my shade. Just take another foundation that you have already and use it as your guide. I always do that and it works.

I've had the same problem. I go in now and get a bunch of different samples around the color I think I am and then I test them at home. It's worked for me :)

Every time I go to ulta and try to find my match it comes out way to dark or light. I got a concealer there (tarte shape tape) and it made me look like I forgot to wipe away my bake. They need new lights at ulta for sure. I don’t really have a problem with Sephora’s lighting though

You can definitely see the difference by using Shape Tape vs. the other looks, it adds a unique glow and conceal. I want a combination of all 3 looks! 😍🙈

I've used beauty blender and the Aesthetica beauty sponge but lately I've been loving the Sonia Kashuk blending sponge. It's larger than the beauty blender which makes applying foundation a much faster process. Good especially for matte foundations that dry on the face quickly.

i loved how he did this look tbh! the lighting in ulta is terrible and i dont think some people realize how important lighting is in the makeup process

Jaden Ulta's lighting sucks. I had It cosmetics' CC+ foundation applied. Looked so good in store that I bought the product on the spot. I checked it again outside, & immediately returned the CC cream. The difference was incredible. I looked beyond ashy. So yes, lighting makes a huge difference. And no, I don't work for Ulta.

I work at ulta and I don’t know how it is at other ultas but for us, there’s only certain brushes we are suppose to use. Like the IT cosmetic brushes are the only brushes we are suppose to be using on clients. So that’s why he probably used a big brush to contour your nose. I know that at my salon, for highlighting, we don’t have a small highlight brush or fan brush to apply highlighter with. So sometimes we just have to make do(:

Surely there’s a small eyeshadow brush you could use to highlight/nose contour. That doesn’t excuse using a massive face brush.

Holy crap you are gorgeous! 😯 you really rocked that look! I just got my makeup done at ulta today, and my artist did a great job ary listening to what I wanted but the makeup felt super cakey on my skin. Not only that she didn't cleanse or moisturize my skin like other artists have done in the past. Plus, I told her I was on a budget and couldn't buy a ton of expensive product and she kinda looked art me strange when I said I needed to stay at $100 or less. Feeding my family is a tad more important than my makeup after all lol. But regardless, she did a good job at teaching me how to apply the different types of product.

I still use the makeup wedges from time to time - always disappointing when I do hahahaha! Was how I learned to apply makeup as a kid ( I’m 30) beauty blenders didn’t exist & ive always hated foundation brushes !
