I've drained forest and prepared to drain the rest of the channel which is upstream. The dam causes flood damage to the fields.

I imagine that the mud used to hold the sticks together is frozen in those temperatures. Maybe that is why it wouldn’t collapse. It sure looked like it was about to, but the foundation was frozen.

That huge tree that you pulled from the bottom of this dam is why it did not collapse. That was keeping the base of the dam strong, but as usual you killed the dam. 👍

Thank you for the video! We live in the Southeastern United States. We also are plagued with beaver trouble. They kill beautiful trees that provide nuts or fruit to the deer population. They also kill pine trees that we periodically thin, cut, and replant. You are doing great work. For whatever reason, your videos relax me, I love watching the water go down. I’m looking forward to the next episode. ❤❤❤

I actually had a little thought about this collapse that you working for. I wondered if you tried to begin on the upper side of the dam and scrape or dig so you get more depth on that side. I guess it’s creating more pressure to the dam that way. It was just a thought and I have zero experience of dam removal, but it should work. 😊❤

Great start to opening the dam, removing most of material from the front of the dam. If you want a good collapse keep making the cut wider. Spending more time removing the mud in the dam would really lower the water level in the stream.

Love your video but mixed feeling as Beaver damns are actually good for the environment they encourage biodiversity into the land, they create more insects which in turn pollinate the crops and the land and allow dragon flies frog newts and amphibians to breed to flourish and create more food for birds and predators, in areas prone to drought the hold moisture in the soil which prevent the ground from drying out reducing dust and airborne pollution.

Te get collapse you have to take the front of the dam out NOT the back. The back holds the wall height, not the structural support. Dig the front out to build the weight/mass in front of the wall which the wall can’t handle. Let the height build while digging out the front. This builds collapsing pressure but not structural strength. You want the mass of the water to bust the dam NOT flow rate.

Please do not remove beaver dams! You're singlehandedly undoing the work of mother nature's hydrologic engineers. There are many watershed restoration practitioners who are focusing on emulating Beaver dams in watersheds where beavers have been extirpated. They help keep water tables high, streamside vegetation and wetland plants healthy and contribute immensely to carbon capture! Many watersheds on earth are suffering immensely from actions such as the ones you are taking. If you want to talk about it more, feel free to reach out.

Beaver are an invasive species, their dams are on drainage ditches. Hydrologic Engineers have designed the ditches to drain farm land. The high water levels in the ditches block the field drains, saturating the ground reducing the amount of arable land. Artificial dams have their place and a drainage ditches is not one of them. Please understand why things are being done before commenting.

Why can't you leave it alone? Beavers have been building dams for thousands of years. Humans build dams and kill thousands of trees and plants and flood much much more land (man made lakes) and interfere with and stop fish migration. So what is your problem with beavers building dams and in fact creating habitat for fish, frogs and other aquatic life and water plants for moose to eat ?

why is it “not ok” to have slightly larger wetland environment? Do you mean it is inconvenient for humans? There can be many benefits of the dams too like increased biodiversity less likelihood of flooding and many more
