I just found your videos the other day, so I am unsure if you have found this or not, but later you can unlock a way to either plug the badwater sources, or farm them from what I recall. I'm pretty sure the way that works is that you end up being able to use the building to farm badwater instead of using the badwater pumps. For diverting the badtides, one of the other options is to create a diversion for the water to join an already existing flow of badwater. That way you can utilize more space for water wheel power during a badtide. If designed properly, you can get quite a bit of power during a badtide. Just hook up the water wheels in your diversion channel to the main power line, and then during badtides they can provide power. I will say that I have never thought about immediately throwing the badwater off the side of the map during the badtide before... I've always devised some convoluted method to redirect the badwater flow to an already existing channel of badwater. There are a lot of little tricks and mechanics to learn in this game, and I am constantly learning new ways to optimize my colonies. I remember one creator's video where they talked about how to make a really efficient water wheel farm that circulated its own water supply while also getting the maximum amount of power generation. Water wheels do slow down the water that travels through them, eventually causing a water wheel further downstream to generate very little power, but there are ways to take advantage of game mechanics to speed the water back up that can make for interesting power farm designs.

Wow can't believe it didn't occur to me that you could build windmills on platforms being I more my whole town to above me reservoir and even force them to get wet fur by doing it this way.
