I have 120 acres. I have to walk 1.5 miles to get from one end of my land to the other. I recommend people stay with 5 acres or less as its far easier to manage.

Great tips! We have an acre and it's amazing all you can do on it and still have a nice sized "yard". Zoning is very, very important - we've discovered! Make sure animals and gardening is allowed, but unlimited ag zoning is a double edged sword if you have small acreage in the middle. I'd guess industrial zoning is the same.
@missydiamond9310
@missydiamond9310 6 жыл бұрын
Chicken Hues hey what do you mean by unlimited ag zoning is a double edged sword?
@ChickenHues
@ChickenHues 6 жыл бұрын
It depends on what you want. If you have a small place in the middle of unlimited AG or industrial zoned areas things could change significantly from when you purchased. Huge livestock operations or Industrial complexes could change the area around you if one person/group controls it. If you're surrounded by smaller land owners things usually won't transform for miles around you - especially if the zoning is more residential. I hope that explains what I mean. But it's great for being able to use your land as you like.

Hey Becky just wanted to let you know I love your videos! My family owns 25 acres, but most of it is woods and the rest is wide open fields. The fields are on a hill so we can’t really use it and instead just let a farmer rent it to grow food for his livestock.
@Marialla.
@Marialla. 3 жыл бұрын
Woods are great for raising pigs, which are natural forest animals. Kunekune pigs are really friendly and small, and great for a family. Goats also enjoy browsing on brush, and can be raised for milk, meat, or wool. Hilly fields are okay if you want to grow an orchard, or paddock grazers like cows, or run chicken tractors.

You're so right! I have a 1/2 acre plot in a village. It's big enough to grow enough food to feed our family of three adults for a year. (I can or dry everything) I also have a postage stamp orchard and a hazelnut tree (bush?) growing on it. If the village allowed chickens there would be enough land for that also. I thought about buying some land for harvesting the wood for fuel, but for what it would cost in the yearly taxes alone, we can buy enough firewood to heat our little cottage for the winter.

I am making the leap becky. I am finally going into a homestead property this year. I have enough equity in my home to make a good down payment. $100k I hope this is enough to buy some land for around $75k or less and then build a metal building with as little wood as possible because cedar is expensive and termites destroy. After the property is purchased, hopefully, with a well and septic on it already,and of course electric connected, maybe they have a very small structure there. I would put the remaining balance ($25k) towards a down payment for a construction loan for $120k. I am planning to only spend $75k on top of the down payment, totaling out to $100k for the structure and $75k for the land. A $175k brand new home custom built and where i want because I would be buying land and not a house. Also increasing the overall value of the property drastically to maybe $300k. Allowing me to sell the property if needed. North florida has flood zones afterall.

Birds "preen" to groom themselves. There is a small nubbin of a gland just above their tails, called, unsurprisingly, the preen gland, that produces oil. They nibble at the preen gland, and then spread it around their feathers with their beaks. This smooths out the feathers, and keeps them conditioned and pointing the right directions. It may look like they are pecking at themselves, but it's probably a grooming activity. Also, when they grow out their real feathers, they will need to dust bathe to keep their skin clean and de-bug themselves.

Then again, there will eventually be 4 families living on the land - 2 of them could be very big if we get wives that are fine with that.

@@ayoayo1044 for the price of a house in the city you can build 1 in the country how ever you like it and a bigger lot.😉. the commute is the downside. keep it 40 minutes to 1hr tops. dont go above 2 acres XD(you can get cheap lot in 2 acres. avoid gates communities lots. those theyll sell you the lot cheap but youll pay HOA fees long term) unless you like mowing grass and paying taxes and keep the house reasonable in size. appeal your property tax cause theyll try to tax you alot. compare other houses your size and say they are paying less than you. try to get a $18 job and in 10-15 years you should have your house. that will put you before 40 with a nice house and leave you money for vacations while you save up XD if you have a partner, girlfriend/wife theyll cut your goal time in half (5-10 years) in saving. but if they divorce you theyre getting half 😂 i build mine 45K for the lot and (just the house 110K) with septic and well 40k. for 200k after all set and done. its valued at 300K ~_~ thats why you appeal and say my house is not worth 300k so you dont pay higher taxes

But don’t you get lonely ? 💙 I have 14 acres (inherited) in a small lonely town & not sure how I could survive without neighbors. Lol I’m a city girl but really considering the country life. The acres are near Old Williamsburg Va.
