I been bartending for 6 months now. I'm quite new. I been getting better. There is 3 bartenders who say I'm still slow but I'm going as fast as I can and I never have people waiting for long and we are in a club. No matter how good i think I'm doing these specific people like to say I'm not. The owner who works there with us every day he doesnt want me to focus on speed because I'm doing fine and he doesnt see that I need to go faster. People at work are so mean. I'm trying not to kick myself for it.

If the manager says you’re fine, the other bartenders opinions don’t matter. They’re probably just trying to bring you down because they’re jealous of you. The pretty new girl is getting way more attention than them.

OR time is money. The more customers you can get to the more tips are possible. If tips are pooled I would hope my coworkers are right there with me. One time I had a guy who messed around and I was making 4 to his every one. To bust your butt and then have to share 50-50 with a slow or noncaring coworker is not cool.

I'm guilty of taking just one groups order at a time PLUS I have to write it all down bc between the time a a group of 5-10 ppl shout their orders to me, and me getting to even begin on the order, I have the service drink printer going off like crazy, a couple at the bar asking what's taking their dessert so long, another patron asking for their check, servers asking how much longer on their drinks and another server asking for me to make change. I could never remember multiple groups of drink orders without writing it down, let alone taking more than one groups order at a time 😢 KUDOS to those that can!!

Solid stuff. Taking 10 drink orders usually don't come from 10 individuals (they come from a point person or two) and not that easy. D.A. I like what your're teaching though, but for some bars/operations it's extremely important to ring in the drinks at some point before just moving on to the next wave of folks. lol! Loud music, phone ringing at bar, food coming out to the wrong seats, and 1 or 2 complaining guests surely weigh on the short term memory.

I’m going to have pens and a notepad behind my bar (hotel). They mostly order old fashioned which is great bc I drink them & know exactly how to make them. But my approach is taking multiple orders, ring them in first (asking for room number or Cc) then start making them. I’m working on getting a better memory but In the meantime I will write my orders down to avoid having to ask 2-3x “what beer did you say you wanted ma’am?” 😂

It's always interesting to see the perspective from elsewhere and how priorities change based on the environment. For example, the big plus of memorising the prices of all items is pretty much expected here - also adding the whole thing up correctly in your head, so when you place the last drink of the group you can immediately state the total, take payment and just ring it up in one go. And while they potentially fumble with the cash or you wait for the card payment to go through and receipts to be printed you take the next order. - However, taking several groups' orders at once will likely get you into trouble very fast (for varying reasons but most have to to with the register being blocked for more than a few seconds at a time and with groups disliking getting their drinks not at the same time).

Hey Southern, I'm blown away that management would demand such a policy. There's nothing you can do about it, and I understand that they want focused customer service, but this is the definition of bad customer service: having multiple people feeling ignored while the bartender focuses on one person. Best of luck to you with all that, and thanks for stopping by.

I do something similar but i go about it a different way. Lets say theres 2 groups of people, take all their orders, ring em all up, go make all the drinks. Beers/wines/mix drinks get made first and given out. Then i go make the specialty cocktails. I work in a corporate restaurant so they really want things to be rang up right away. However i keep the receipt on my bar counter until i am ready to take their money at the end. And most people are at the bar waiting to be sat at a table anyway where i work. It all depends on the place you’re working at.

Thanks Blue Flask, but I haven't forgotten anything. This is not a problem if you know what you're doing. What most people don't realize that in a busy environment, half the people have tabs open so you are just adding drinks to their tabs. But even if they don't, you can definitely take more orders as you are collecting money. This is the multitasking part. You're making drinks and collecting money as you go, and even as I take that $20 bill from someone, I can look up and take another drink order, go cash the person out and start making the next order. Once you get the rhythm of this, your value will skyrocket and you will make more sales and therefore more tips. Thanks for stopping by. Cheers.

This is a recipe for shitty bartenders though Bartenders will HATE their jobs becasue when they have to multitask as such they completley exclude "Custumer Service and/or expierence". You value money which is cool, so do i, it looks like you might also value bartending, if you do that would mean you care about your practice as shown in this video and even your craft and how you got to where you are; multitasking. If you impliment this as a work enviornment to your bartenders though, then eventually you will only have bartenders that do NOT care about knowing the exact proportions for specific drinks or tenders who ONLY care about the money and not getting the drinks done right. Ive seen it in too many oplkaces and what happens, is that it actually KILLS our bar history and what we come to know drinks as (at least on a consistency basis). You're the capitalist that all the socialists and snowflakes hate, and everything in the world that people who ahave never bartended will love. Bravo.
@DaveAllredTheRealBarman
@DaveAllredTheRealBarman 5 жыл бұрын
Nathan, Nathan, Nathan...I appreciate your passion, but I imagine you're one of those people on facebook who jumps on political soapboxes and blames rich people for ruining the country. I can see that you're passionate about arguing this topic so you can preach about all the shitty bartenders you have come across who are more interested in looking cool than providing a good experience, but your argument assumes that just because you are good at one skill that all others must be sacrificed. You've come up with your own formula that says "If you're good at multi-tasking: you make drinks with incorrect proportions, you give bad service and all you care about is money." And just because you've seen it true in other bad bartenders, it does not make it a rule. The point of the video is to give a few tips to show aspiring bartenders how to serve people quickly in a very busy environment so they don't get behind and people can get their drinks faster. Don't turn it into your social experiment. To say that a bartender who is good at multitasking is bad at everything else is placing a giant limiting belief of what we are capable of as bartenders. Cheers.

@@DaveAllredTheRealBarman Damn, I feel where the man is coming from. And then see that you’re also right. In my bar, managers just want me to keep getting faster at pushing drinks because some feel that a 10-second shake is too long lol. So I said 8 seconds would be the lowest I could do to not embarrass myself with a humiliating low washline on a couple of martini glasses. They reply to me saying this is not a craft bar. But I just can’t comprehend how a standard 10-second count could hurt our night sales.
