Tim Keller sermons via Gospel in Life: What did Jesus mean when he said that he came to give his life as a ransom for many? In this sermon Tim Keller explains the objective and subjective meanings of the cross. Objectively, Jesus paid the debt we owe that separates us from God. Subjectively, the cross turns us into little children, running boldly into our Father’s loving arms because of what Jesus has done. This sermon will help us answer three questions: 1) What did Jesus come to do?; 2) Why did he come to do it?; 3) How can we personally connect to it?
This sermon was preached by Rev. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on April 1, 2001.
Scripture: Mark 10:13-16, 35-45

This is a seriously underrated sermon, bar none, and one of Dr Keller’s best. Sir, we need you here, and at the same time I’m thrilled you are reaping your reward in heaven and enjoying eternal rest in Christ.

"the Father experienced son-lessness on the cross." Interesting angle! I also appreciate how Keller goes at length to explain that forgiveness ultimately involves someone having to absorb the cost/pain of the wrongdoing. The cost/pain doesn't just magically disappear. I wish preachers would be more aware of that whenever they preach to (or try to emotionally blackmail) the congregation about forgiving all wrongs.

Thank you so much for this format of having the subtitles moving along with the speech of Pastor Tim!! It is so helpful for those from non-English background to follow easily, people with learning difficulties like ADHD to concentrate better, and so much more. God bless your ministry and Pastor Tim 🙏💕

There are many little children who know that they are NOT accepted at all. It took me nearly 70 years to know that God accepts me. But thank God, I finally know His love from listening to David Benjamin- ChristiansNeedTheGospel. The Good News is extraordinarily good!

@Cynthia B - Amen sweet sister...🙏. I came across David Benjamin's video on ("beating up the saints" - paraphrasing). I'm 57 and my life of heartache is being put to rest as I heal in Grace alone. I have been so broken that I see Jesus patience and gentle kindness - finally! He is pure love and we have no clue down here! Maranatha 🙏💕

Very true indeed and tragic. I grew up in a Christian home, and yet, though the people around me said "justified by faith alone", in reality, their lives and actions outside the confines of the Church was "by works alone". Even now, I struggles to believe that God loves me just as I am and that I have intrinsic value simply because I am created in the image of God.

Good message. I am a tiny bit pedantic. I can't help mentioning that Mohammed didn't exactly die in a noble or honorable way. He didn't have a hero's death. He had failed in his attempt to go to Mecca. He returned humiliated. He then attacked the Jewish settlement of Khaibar. He had the leaders beheaded, one tortured, and he took women captive. One of the Jewish women poisoned his food and he died slowly and painfully.

God sent His Son, because of His MERCY, while knowing the HELPLESSNESS of His children, otherwise prophets in old testament would work well without our LORD Jesus having to come to give His life.

I love the message, just one small issue I see with it, violence isn't inherently good or bad, even Jesus used violence. Violence is bad when it's used against innocence or when it is used where it isn't necessary. Using violence against a child is evil, but using violence to stop a child from being harmed is virtue.
