Once again, Marco's mastery of education shines here. He does a great job of explaining _why_ and _how_ to choose colors -- not just telling you what colors to use. It's very much in the "teach a man to fish" vein. Bravissimo!

This is the most impressive paint job for me, I've collected lizardmen for years and been trying to get better at painting them during lockdown, to see the quality of the paint job you achieved in 3 hours across the whole warband blows my mind, I took longer to paint just the saurus and I'm no where near your level. Thank you so much for the way you explain your process too Marco any more lizards in the future will be greatly appreciated.

The red undercoat was an inspired choice. Overall, this was a very similar process to the one I did, but I used a green to add variety to the skink blue. Now I'm wishing I had waited to see this!

I appreciate this workflow most because I almost never have three or four hours uninterrupted to try back-and-forth artistic experiments. In this video I can point to several places where I could stop between steps after an hour, then come back the next day and pick it right up again.

The things you can do in 3 hours. I used one of your videos as reference to paint one of my huge amount of unpainted underworlds warbands (some stormcasts) and I learned a lot. Now I feel like I need to do the same with this, and take away as much as I can from it.

This is amazing. I think some of the tips are easy to translate: 1. Make a Plan 2. Get all the tools you need for the plan ready. 3. Do as much of it as possible with an airbrush 4. Do everything you can with one color before moving to the next color 5. Use colors with good coverage OR use white to prepare an area for colors with poor coverage 6. Use the same palette of colors on all the models in a group but vary their application slightly 7. Heavy. Body. Acrylics. Buddy. 8. The style of brush stroke you use can convey material quickly without a lot of effort. 9. Glazes for tone. Maybe I missed one or two. But actually applying some of these lessons to get to that level is a whole other thing. The red base for the blue skin looks so good in the finished product but my instinct would've been to cover it entirely. I also have a lot of trouble maintaining any values sketch or undercoat I do with the next layer. It always goes opaque too quickly. At any rate: amazing stuff. Always here for a Marco video. Your #lizarmen is missing a "d" :D Also, we need "Hellooooooo guys" and a "what up is on the channel" shirts.

It's called "knowing what you're doing"... it's mainly the result of a ton of experience and experimentation. I'm a professional illustrator and artist and I draw and paint stuff in a fraction of the time it takes others (who are also really good) to do the same. The key is the experience and knowing what you're doing, because once you have reached that level you know exactly which steps will give you which result AND which steps you can leave out because they aren't necessary. The same goes for painting miniatures, there's a lot of stuff people do that isn't necessary and therefore costs time, but doesn't give you any better results. Blending wet paints on a model is much faster than doing layering for instance. And the wet blending also gives you a more professional looking result. You are basically doing less work while also increasing the quality of the result. There are tons of these things in drawing, painting, painting miniatures etc., in any artistic activity basically. (probably also in all kinds of other fields like mechanics etc. but I don't know, I'm not an engineer :D)

@@barbarusbloodshed6347 Yep, exactly. It's generally accepted that it takes between 10,000 and 20,000 hours of time to become a master of any skill. That's what separates hobbiests from professionals. I can 3D model 50x faster than a layperson because I've done it all day, five days a week, for 16 years (Oh god...). Similarly, I would expect a professional painter to paint 50x faster than me because they've put the hours in. People often discount the efforts others have put into things that most consider "hobby talents".
