@Perxcr Fully right! I would for sure give up the "comfort" of a full time 9-5 job for a few years to live out the dream of being a pro athlete during that time, knowing that I could always work a regular job once I was done playing. Too many people take the safe route right away without ever having given themselves a chance to make it pro. And it's a shame, because more people could make it pro than do. They just don't want it enough to try in the right way. Again this applies to any sport, not just soccer/football.

A lot of mediocre players are very dedicated and hardworking often even more so than the stars of the team... Pro football teams aren´t charity businesses, players must perform. It´s one thing to train hard but you need to win trust from the trainer so you can get play time and during play time you have to perform up to expectations. It´s really unfair sometimes because you can be benched just because the trainer doesn´t like your style of playing (eventhough you´re a very good player) or just dislikes your personality...

I'm a 14 year old kid, and I play for the best club in San Antonio. Yes we are good, but we are still steps behind the top teams in Texas. I did not have high level training until recently, so I am excited to see what I can do. And not to mention have see a huge improvement in my game recently. But I just got injured and could be out for weeks to months. Being brought up I think I have the strongest mentality there could be, I don't remember the last time I cried tbh. But I know what its like to feel like you aren't good enough, but I always get through and play with the best that compete with academy level teams. I hope that I can surpass the filters of becoming a pr.

Hey Matt, been watching you for a while and this relates to me a lot. Funnily enough I am currently an actuary and choose that instead of sem-pro ball. Agents brought me back to reality after my junior year in college and I knew I could not support my family with that money. Both my parents were unemployed so it was all on me to provide. Im glad you were fortunate enough to pursue ball and your work ethic is amazing (inspiring stuff)! It truly is the best job in the world. Trust me people, if I have to choose between making 24k in soccer vs 100k in my current job, I would choose soccer every day of the week. If I had one do over in life, it would be to take footy more seriously as a kid. Then again circumstances mater, I hope the youngins watching now don't have to make that choice that I did. Good luck everyone and I hope everyone reading this gets that shot at the 2%!

So true 🔥 like I live in South Africa and $1000 does go a longer way this side than in the US. For example a yearly salary of $120 000,00 is equal to R1 815 508,80 a year (7 December 2020) and that here is alot of money you a millionaire and you live very very comfortably. Where as in the US you dont love that millionaire lifestyle. Our highest paid player in South Africa earns about R10 million a year which is $661 682,00 which is still alot even in the US but in south Africa that's a salary which you can easily retire off from without ever Working again, if invested well because our cost of living is much lower than that side in the US. And our average monthly pay this side is between R100 and R120 thousand a month which is between $6 615,97 and $7939,82 a month. And footballers here in South Africa drive crazy expensive cars and have big houses they are, at the top level, basically set for life if they smart about their money. But again the cost of living here is much lower I'm sure if Matt came this side he would become a millionaire 😅 Anyways thought I should just share Really love your videos Matt keep it up.

Great perspective on things in the professional game. There are alot of "pro" players especially in the USL Championship who don't deserve a contract. It's not on their ability it's on their connections. There's also players making bugger all trying to get their foot in the door who have bags of skill over 100s of players but don't suck up to coaches so they get left out to dry

Amazing video again. I love you because you always say the truth. Often we associate professional footballer to rich. However, it is not the case as a lot of people needs a second job to have a family. Fantastic content again and I am learning from you💪🙏

Love the transparency! Being a “pro” doesn’t mean wealth and riches instantly and forever. A lot of “pros” like to blow through their money trying to look rich.

just shows the importance of dedication in such a competitive indistry like proffesional football. Matt should be a rolemodel in that aspect, he was playing in germany making very few when he was 25, but didnt quit and look for a plan B, but now he is playing at a top league and making loads

Matt is one of the smartest person I have seen. He built this massive brand "become elite" to help him more financially and he is probably the 1st professional soccer player to start documenting his journey and help young players achieve their dreams 👏 I am sure his business mindset and hardwork will make him rich after retirement and "become elite" would be a global brand not just a youtube channel 🙌

Q&A: The idea behind almost every motivational quote and the 10,000 hour rule is, if you work hard and everyday, you will achieve something big. This is obviously true. But I think the kids take this too serious and train like 3 hours everyday. It is good to have this attitude. But I wittnessed it by myself it is not good to train too much and don't take breaks. I'm injured now for like 6 months. Obviously it's all about knowing your body when to take breaks, but can you give me some tips to balance it with training. And how has your view of taking breaks changed through your career?

@24:48 Correct. Take it from someone who has played 32 years of pure amateur competitive football (soccer). To get paid to kick a ball between two posts is an incredibly fantastic reality. As things stand today, I have (gladly) put into the game (fees, equipment, injury recovery, travel) over $80 000 and gotten exactly $0 back. So yes. Let's be grateful.
