I am from Durban, played club rugby there for many years. I can confirm Jim has our respect. He took some beatings but he never backed down, took it all head on.

Jim you are a legend. Fighting in schools amongst boys in SA was a rite of passage back then. You proved yourself, so the boy who hit you gained your respect.

guess I never went through that rite of passage because I never fought anyone and neither did any of my mates. Mostly was the bullies and arseholes that did the fighting

Jip, SA mentality, you have to front up to the challenge, even if you take a beating, it earns respect. I remember taking a few shots from compatriots and having the best party with the same lads afterwards 👌

Jim, I lived in Pietermaritzburg and the roughest okes were from Durban. Those DHS old boys were another story. Unfortunately, SA is an aggressive place but you survived it! Legend you are.

Lol when I was 10ish some kids beat me up and took my bike. When I went home my Dad (Afrikaaner) said “Don’t come home without your bike”. Then closes the door on me. I learned a valuable lesson in taking a beating.

Truth son. My toppie one day threw me out the house, said face him and he closed the fucking door, the guy fucked me up so bad, back then I thought my dad must hate me a lot, but now I think that maybe it was a good thing, getting fucked up makes you better.

south africans can get aggresive when drunk. my brother was one of those guys fighting when drunk. he is as strong as an ox. once took out 3 guys on his own. one night almost lost his one eye with a guy kicking him in the face while he was sitting on someone beating him up. After that he decided he had to change his life a bit. good old days. he was like 6ft 2 and 130kg back then.

I remember getting weed when it was still criminal at Cool Runnings. Really really dodgy as it's middle of town and a one way when you leave, used to be so skrik for cops as they would catch you by that one way.

grew up in Potch... always hated playing against miner's kids. We mostly won on the scoreboard but the next day it didn't feel so great. Also their fields we basically just 60-70% dirt lots of times so away games sucked. I mean you get grassburns and grazes in every match, but there's a big difference between a grass field and a compacted dirt field.
