I’m a sophomore in college and I’m taking calculus 1 this summer.I’ve improving on my time management and self motivation because college for me is the only way I’ll become successful. I used to hate the word “Homework” but now I know it’s essential in being able to practice math problems and improve problem solving skills for the engineering courses later on. I’m working on getting a full grip on the importance of completing college and getting into a hard working mindset. When I first started I almost flunked out but I’ve improved when I really started out back in 2022. I’m definitely going to work on applying these seven attributes to myself to be able to achieve my degree in engineering so I can go back to school after I get my degree in mechanical engineering to get into electrical engineering 😁🙏🏿💯

Great video, mental health is very important, anxiety and depression will definitely destroy a student, identifying these problems early and getting help (student clinic or other groups). also use the resource on campus as supplementary TA(s) are there for harder classes

I’m a senior in highschool and I was think about engineering because I love finding solutions to things and using your Brain to solve problems, but I’ve always been a average student or sometimes being below average, so I just assumed that it would be impossible to get a engineering degree , untilI I started looking for information about engineering in college and I found this book on Amazon. When the book arrived and I start indulging in it and I took notes, highlighted the important parts, and made post-its and placed it on my window,I did everything in my power to soak up every little piece of information ,I loved your book so much it gave me so much inspiration and motivation, I related so so well to you, and I just wanted to simply thank you for writing the book and inspiring many 🙌 Btw:your book deserves way more attention, it’s extremely underrated

Carlos! What a fantastic message! Thank you very much for your kind words - made my day. I’m very happy that you related to the book and have found it helpful. It sounds like you are in a very similar position that I was before college. But you got this! What type of engineering are you planning to study? And yes, I’m working on getting the book into more hands … it’s a process. To that point, don’t forget to leave a review on Amazon! They are very helpful in all of the algorithms. Thanks again!

This is quite the interesting video. Im about to return to college for my first major in engineering. I was scared for a few years due to losing momentum in my education a year after high school. I tried working many different types of jobs from personal training, sales and even working for amazon at warehouses. I finally decided these types are jobs just arent for me. I start my first year towards my bachelors in civil engineering this fall.

perfect to see video at this time. I got into good 4 year School and engineers need a 2.7 gpa taking their upper division courses. mine is a 2.5 gpa. besides canceling my admission they gave me opportunity to take summer school before fall semester starts. I can take random easy classes and get A's but I was encouraged to take courses in my major for EE. don't know what to do. don't think it's a complete waste of money if I can move forward and take fall semester. enjoyed your bridge set up for graduation. I want a b.s. degree then I'm done. took me a while to transfer. a little over 50 units left for me to graduate. good day to you

Hey Nathan! I think you should do whatever feels right for you. Don’t feel guilty if you take the easy classes just to get your GPA up. If you need a mental break from it all, take it via basket weaving and yoga! I’m happy you liked the video. And good luck to you.

Hi. I was hoping that I was going to be able to bring my gpa up from a 2.2 to at least a 2.5, but with new difficulties with the pandemic and high anxiety, I actually brought it down. I only have a year left and I will probably end up with a 2.1 gpa if pass all my classes with A and B's which I plan to do. I just don't know what to do. I'm afraid that I won't find a job with that kind of GPA. I know I am capable of more but when I was ready to deliver the pandemic made everything worse and my parents ended up getting the virus and I had to take care of them which did not help with preparing for the first wave of test this last semester. I barely passed three of my classes and two of them I got B's but I had planned to made better grades and it just did not happen. I'm majoring in civil engineering and terrified that no one will hire me after I graduate in a year with a 2.1 gpa

Hey! I feel for you and all of the other students that have had to attend school during this pandemic. And I am very sorry to hear about your parents, I hope they have recovered. As far as your GPA goes, I wouldn't worry about it too much. I currently work with several engineers who were hired on with sub-3.0 GPA's. Your diploma will look exactly the same as the kid who got a 4.0. But if you're that worried about it, just leave your GPA off of your resume. Another thing to consider is the labor shortage right now. there are ALOT of jobs out there. And as long as you're willing to be flexible and maybe relocate. I have no doubt that you will be able to land something once you graduate. But at this point, I would just focus on the things you can control. Your performance will not benefit by worrying about the future or regretting the past. I hope that helps!

@@becominganengineer2271 Thank you so much for your advice. It does help. This summer I had planned to take a class that I can actually take in the fall which would make me a full time student in the fall. So, instead I'm planning to improve my skills during the summer to build a better resume, like learning different software related to my field and just review what I learned this semester and also start preparing for the FE so I can pass it before I graduate. I hope that maybe that would be enough for employers to take a chance with me. Also, thankfully my parents recover. It took them almost a month and it was rough but they made it. Thanks for your advice and your video.

Hi there. Just came across your video. My university does not use a GPA system but a credit, merit and distinction sytem to grade students. Is it harder to get a job if one graduates below credit. I ask this because it's highly likely that I'll meet the credit mark. I also here it's harder to get into a masters program with low grades.
@becominganengineer2271

Hey! that's really interesting. What school do you go to? Can you clarify your first question? And yes, it is more difficult to get into a master's program with lower grades. most programs have a minimum GPA requirement of around 3.2.

Hey! congrats on graduating soon! Yes, my university actually required a 3.0 GPA for the masters program. However, one nice thing my school offered was the option to apply with your cumulative GPA or the GPA for the last 2 years of your undergrad ... whichever is higher. Maybe your school offers something similar?
