I have spent almost two years of my life here in the Philippines...
I never planned on coming to the Philippines, I never planned on starting something called #BecomingFilipino, I never planned on being given a Filipino name. This video is just a little bit more about who I am, and why I do what I do...
It was put together for me by a friend, and gives a little bit more insight into what #BecomingFilipino is.
This isn't about "Becoming Filipino", because truth is I will never have any right to say that, and will never truly know what it feels like to be Filipino. But! it is about sharing all those beautiful, amazing, positive and inspiring things that this culture has brought into my life. It is about sharing my experiences as a foreigner, and sharing the positive things I experience everyday here in the Philippines.
I guess I will always be #BecomingFilipino… Because yes even though I'll never "Be Filipino"… a part of this culture will be part of my life, until I die...
and this journey is about sharing that part with the world around me...

Many tourist from other countries will forever be "tourists" in the Philippines no matter how long they stay here, because they don't get it. You get it, Kulas. You're no "tourist" to us; you're one of us.

You're video's are addicting, Kyle. I look forward to watching new ones. You do a fantastic job (along with your cameraman) of narrating and interacting with the people there to show the world the culture of the Philippines. You seem to have picked up the language quickly. My wife, who just so happens to be Filipino tell me to watch more of your video's so that I may learn as well. But, I watch them because you make them fun to watch. Keep up the good work and keep the video's coming!!

I agree with you about how giving the Filipino are. I have been to many countries around the world but I have never been to a place like the Philippines. The people there, who have very little food are so sharing and would give you the shirt of their back. I married a Filipina in Lapu Lapu in September 2012. We are together now in Hawaii and she is truly a gift from God. Thanks Kyle for your great videos. Keep it up! Mahalo and Aloha, David Olsten

I love your write-up in the description. I do agree with you, that you aren't about "becoming Filipino", because being Filipino is just like being any other nationality-- in a sense it is becoming human, in general. But trust me, you have every right to say you are Filipino. Your positive attitude/outlook in life alone is innately Filipino. To smile for no reason at all, and to persevere and never loose hope even when you have nothing else left but your family and friends. Cheers to you Kulas! Mabuhay ka! Ayos! :) PS thank you for reminding everyone, even naturally born Filipinos like myself what our culture represents. :)

I have had the pleasure of watching every last video that you have made on this channel, and continue to enjoy every last one of them. The one that stuck to me the most is where the kids had to cross the river every day just to go to school, and you with the kind heart you bear in your chest had given them something they will never forget.

All of your videos have been outstanding but I have to admit, I really felt where you were coming from with this one. We spent a very short two weeks in southern Antique in June and I can't shake the feeling that the Philippines is where I need to be. My wife and I are planning to make the move there in about 3 or 4 years, but now that wait seems way too long. As you said, the greatest attraction is the people, their attitudes and their love of life and happiness.

Thanks for sharing our culture to the world Kyle. These places you've been we used to ignore them. That's the reason many Pinoys went to your country, Canada, US, Australia etc. Your videos opened our eyes. The ocean, waves, breeze, warm weather all year long. Those are the things we Pinoy have not appreciated the God given natural wonder. With poverty, typhoons, earthquakes the Philippines had been through every year....Indeed your "Smiles" are contagious. Good luck & be safe in your next travel. I was missing my hometown & checking on my house since nobody lived there anymore. My parents just passed away. And here you are, I accidentally click on your videos. You heal my homesickness. Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart.

I just came across your many videos and I was inspired to visit places like the ones you've shown in your videos. You showed how genuine you are in liking the Philippines and it's people. You have integrated so well with the Pinoy culture. As much as you love the Philippines, you are so well loved by the Filipinos also.Your fun filled spirit was so evident and maybe why the Filipinos like you a lot!
