Hutch? Is the hutch big? If not do they get run around space, i have two guinea pigs and when i first got them i got them a hutch then in winter we bought a store bought cage for when there inside, but i did al my research and I realised how much space they need! Right now im in the process of building/ re doing a shed to free roam my guinea pigs in the bottom of the shed, storage on the top floor, i was just going to recommend if you maybe give them more than a hutch.. i like to help others out even if i am trying to do the best for all my animals xox

Thanks! They get straw when it is very cold and also I sometimes use heat pads. They cuddle up for heat :) I also feed more high calorie veggies like carrots for energy and so they maintain body heat x

What kind of wood? If it's Aspen it should be alright. Soft n safe is cotton? If so it's really dangerous! Use just some shadered plain paper tissues for nesting!

if you give him enough space (which would be a 2x3 or better 2x4 c&c cage) you won't need to give him floor time. The minimum for a single gp cage is 2x3. If under that measurement it would be best to have them on floortime for a minimum of three hours a day.

I have a 40 gallon breeder tank for my two boys. I try to give them at least an hour of floor time a day. Also, is your little piggy a boy Or a girl? Anyway, good luck with your little fur baby!

@@theswimmingpotato7037 that is approximately 90x35 cm, way too small for two guineapigs! Please do your research, guineapigs need a bigger cage and not tanks cause they can't breathe in there and can suffer a lot in summer. Would you keep a rabbit in a tank?

Yume Himamori my guinea pigs can breathe quite fine. Like said before, they get an hour of floor time a day plus they get to go outside every other day during the summer. (In the shade on top of cooling pads) I also have expansions on my cage so it’s practically double the space. I’ve done my research and I’ve had guinea pigs for 10+ years. I love my piggies and I would never harm them.

@@theswimmingpotato7037 I don't know where have you done your researches but I also have had gp for a long time and every owner and vet I met wouldn't recommend a tank for gps. They need air circulation and a wide space to run all day, not just one hour a day. It's like keeping a rabbit or a lamb in a small acquarium. A 35 cm wide cage can't let them even turn around. I'm sorry if I sound harsh and I don't mean to offend anyone. I suppose you are providing them enough space but I wouldn't recommend a tank as a cage for someone who has been first experiencing gps. Just stating some good maintanance tips. I recommend following sites like guinealinx and skinnypigs01 yt channel 🙂

Thank you! I used carefresh once when I first got gerbils but it costs like £5 for a tiny bag (I would easily go through that in a few days haha). If they sold it in bales much cheaper then I would consider it :)

Haha yep I recently got quite a large bag for £20 which is expensive, but considering I only use it for litter trays it works well and does last quite a long time. I also just changes over my guinea pigs to the pellets you recommended. Are you still feeding your guinea pigs these pellets?

Jody Crump It is usually perfectly safe, you just hav to be careful what brand you uae as Some can have a high percentage of dust or particles that are too large. I used Kaytee brand aspen for a long time until there was a large piece of the wood in one of my packages and my guine apug ended up slicing his eye on it because it was too sharp. i feel like kaytee is ushually pefectly fine,I just had a bad experience with it.
