Any chance you know what does your bedroom level mean in decibels? I typically practice somewhere around 70 and I can buy a good second-hand JC-40 at the moment. I am however afraid it will be not well used with volume on 1.

Honestly with volume on 1 you will not be able to enjoy the 40 properly. However, although it’s not the quietest of the range you can perfectly play it at home without problems. It’s not for night practising without headphones, but it’s versatile enough to suit every needs

thanks for the video! i was wondering the same question, now i know at room volume jc22 is the best. btw, i suppose many people would choose to use headphone, then i guess the 40 and 120 would also be very good, if not better?

The 40 is the best of both worlds, speaking about 360 degrees usability. I would not suggest playing with headphones, personally I don't like it, it feels kind of boxy. Please subscribe to my channel if you haven't already mate

Excellent video! Perfect comparison and beautiful playing. I've been debating about the JC22 and the JC40 as I'm concerned that the small speakers my not be good for a nice bass, yes the big brothers have a bit deeper sound but the JC22 feels very close to the others, I noticed you had the bass control around 3:00 in the JC22 while in the others they were at 12:00. Mamma mía! it's going to be difficult to make a decision when I go to the shop 🤔 Grazie mille per questo video! Ciao

Check the comparison video with the Hagstrom Baritone guitar. They all can handle deep bass lines pretty good. Of course bigger speakers are better and maybe the 40 is the best of both worlds. Sei italiano?

Don’t forget that the JC 22 is 75% as powerful as the JC 40. 30w vs. 40w…. Plus, it performs at lower volumes very well. Not a bad deal. They have a few left on Reverb B stock for only $450 right now… about $90 off! Enjoy.

The amount of volume of the 40 is not proportional to the wattage. The 40 is loud as hell, still being clean. I’m curious to swap the speakers in the 20 but I can’t find a replacement

Increasing volume via wattage scales by a factor of 10 (a 300 watt amp is twice as loud as a 30 watt amp), not linearly, but speaker sensitivity also plays a big role.

Thanks man. I got sick to death of my Blues Jr, wanted a cleaner sound that's different. I could not deceived which i wanted the JC 22 or Jc 40. Going to get the JC-40. :-)

How much different do they sound to each other EQ wise ? does it sound different only on the bass frequencies yet sound similar in Hi & Mids?

The 22 and the 40 perform the same EQ wise, the 120 with bigger speakers and cabinet depends on the guitar. Usually you have to cut bass. I like to push mids and cut treble for a mellow jazz tone

I want one! Any of them, really... How do they handle pedals? I mean, I've seen another video of the JC40 and it sounded awesome with pedals. I worry the JC22 would be too quiet, or not sound good with pedals, especially the low end, with dirt and, for example, a baritone guitar. The 120 seems unnecessary for my needs (but I'd take it if I could!). I think if I had one that was too loud, I'd set it to where it sounds good, then lower my signal going in via a compressor with a level knob to get it down a bit. I don't know if it'd still sound good reducing the volume that way, but I'd try it.

Question - I have a JC120, which is lovely, and loud. My question is, a volume setting of 1 on the JC120 is equivalent to what on the JC40, 1.5, 2? Am thinking about a JC40 as a more practical option. Cheers

The volume delivery of the 40 And the 120 is about the same. The 40 is a barking amp. The real difference is that you have to push a little bit (volume on 4) the speakers of the 40’to get the best out of it while the 120 is more balanced and rounder and low volumes.

Go and grab a JC22, it’s not loud at all. Smaller alternative it’s just the Supro ‘64 Reverb, but the JC is the best choice. Please subscribe

In the end you can play at bedroom levels with every single JC, but I can tell you this: last night I played until 11:30pm, while my wife was bedding our little one. They didn't hear me playing. I was using the JC22 and still the sound was wide and full

I can't make any sense of this video from listening to it. Unless you are showing db meter values, how do I know which is louder? So can you just answer your own question and tell me, can the 120 perform well at bedroom volume levels or not so much? What about the 40?

Db meter values are pointless in the end, anyway, you can play quietly all of the 3, but is the level of volume control at home that changes. The 120 can compare with the 22 at 0.5 volume level, over that it’s loud. The 40 works until 3 on volume knob, but it’s after 4 that this amp sounds properly good. The volume scale of the 22 gives you much more control of low volumes. This amp give its best without disturbing the neighbours, it’s a great allrounder. @@TheSpaceGuitar Thank you. I'm trying to decide on the 120 or 40. I prefer the fuller sound of the 2x12, but not if it can't be played at lower volume in my room. So can the 120 sound really good and low volume? And what about the 40? Can it sound really good at low volume? Is there a winner between the two at low volume or are they about the same? @@adamdagosto570 between the 2 in terms of pure tone I prefer the 120 but the 40 has better features, stereo in in particular. And it sounds good anyway but gives its best when pushed a little bit

i have a JC22 and to me it is the perfect practice amp. i can’t believe how good the little speakers sound. one day i will get a JC120 but until then i’m loving my JC22!

How are the lows? I am considering the 40 for my jazz guitar but if the 22 is nice and warm will consider that one. Too bad can’t try them anywhere. Stores never cary any and I don’t want to order both and then being a pain and returning one. Cheers and tx for your feedback. Ben

@@TheSpaceGuitar I've heard that the new JC's have digital chorus and the old ones are analog, I'm not sure if this is true or not, I know the reverb is digital but I would like to know if the chorus is still analog in the new ones.

In terms of cleannes yes, but the different speakers make a great difference in the eq of the tone

jc22 makes the perfect studio amp to be mixed with other instruments since it lacks an extended bottom end which will fit easily into any mix. jc40 is better for playing solo.

Still if offers a very balanced eq that makes the tone of a guitar full and tweakeable at any volume. This is something the JC40 can’t do because it needs some volume to sound great

@@TheSpaceGuitar ..well i have the jc22 as my one and only amp these days since i no longer gig ..it's just perfect for room level volumes and makes a great canvas for adding pedals to on account of its fairly neutral response curve, my perfect combo amp for any guitar.

The Twin is exactly the tube alternative to the JC for most of organ and lap steel player. Yet the JC is darker and more compressed. Please subscribe mate

@@TheSpaceGuitar Ah yes, a very, very Wise decision that almost surely will never be regretted and especially since those little Roland treasures have far more value than fake paper fiat in the bank. At least you can say that you actually own your JC's, unlike the Bank's funny "money"!
